Chapter 2
Finally I had found the right classroom, panting slightly. “Calm down, Mary, you are just 10 minutes too late...” I mumbled to myself with a nervous laughter. Before I knocked, I tried to fix my hair again as good as possible. “Yes, come in, please” a strict, male voice came from the other side of the door. Seems like, this...was Mr. White. I swallowed and my hands started to sweat slightly. Great, I thought annoyed. Slowly I opened the door and stepped into the room behind it. A low shiver ran down my spine, feeling all eyes resting on me. My teacher’s: “Why are you too late to the lesson?” pulled me out of my thoughts. “I...I couldn’t find the right room” I stuttered. Mr. White was a middle-aged man who surprisingly had no hair loses yet. He narrowed his grey eyes, looking down at me like I was a nuisance:” Marilyn Adams, I guess” he just stated: “Take a seat and next time I want you to be here punctual”. I nodded quickly. But when he raised a brow strictly, I added:” Yes, Sir” and sat down on the closest, empty chair. Soon I realized that this was the wrong choice. As I was sitting in the first row now, everybody could stare at me. This would be a looooong hour. I tried my best to ignore my classmates and opened my bag, grabbing my scribbling block. Wrinkling my forehead, I searched for my pencil case, but couldn’t find it. “Damn it...” I cursed quietly. A pretty girl next to me holds a ballpoint in front of me:”You can use mine” she offered with a friendly smile. She had beautiful black hair and dark brown eyes. “Thank you” I whispered back with a smile, taking the ballpoint she handed me. She had this Asiatic like tan and her eyes were almond shaped. “Oh my name is Gillian by the way, but please call me Gill like everybody does” she introduced herself. Honestly I was praying to god, that I might have already made a friend on this horrible school. I was a shy person and it wasn’t easy for me to make friends. “Marilyn...”I started, but corrected myself: “Just call me Mary, for short.” Someone clearing his throat interrupted our conversation. We both looked up alarmed and stared directly into Mr. White’s, angry face:”What do you two think you are doing?” Gill and I changed a short look. “I’m sorry, Sir” we said with one voice. “I hope for you two, otherwise you will go to the detention today” he warned us with narrowed eyes. Quickly we nodded in agreement, hoping he would soon drop it and turn back to the blackboard again. Luckily this was exactly what he soon did. I let out my breath in relief; I hadn’t even known that I had held it. Wow, that was a close shave. I never had detention before. Slowly I shook my head in disbelief, before turning back to Gill, without even knowing why. Her brown eyes rested on me and suddenly we just had to giggle. I knew this was weird, but I just couldn’t help it. The rest of the lesson I grinned like an idiot, glad that it seemed like I had already made a friend.
