Chapter 4
The day passed by really quickly. In the break before my last two lessons I was sitting underneath a tree with Gill, talking about my last school and things like this. I also learned more about her. She had two sisters. One was younger than her, still visiting the kindergarten and the older one was already married. Her father, Mr. May, headed his own company and her mother was world-renowned doctor. Soon our chattering stopped and we felt silence, just enjoying the sunny and almost warm autumn day. But suddenly a loud screaming interrupted us. I raised a brow, looking at my new friend. She simply shrugged and we got up to our feet to see what was going on. Hell was going on! When we stepped around the corner of the building, we saw a huge crowd, standing in a circle and cheering. What the...? Curiously Gill and I got closer and made our way through the bunch of people. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Ok, I was used to this from my old school, but in a private school? “Go, Matt!” someone screamed, followed by someone’s: “Knock him out, Liam!” A school yard fight? How old were they? Five? I shook my head slowly in disbelieve, but soon stepped in between the two guys, who were fighting. Guess I was lucky, that they didn’t hit and accidentally injured me. So this might be stupid, I know, but what should I do? I hated violence. “Stop it!” I tried to make myself be heard. To my surprise they both took a step backward, looking at me with huge eyes. Matt, a blond-haired and muscular guy, had an arrogant smirk on his face: “What you want, little nerd?” he spat, wiping away the blood on his face. I wouldn’t bet, but I was pretty sure that it was his blood. Usually I would have grinned. I mean, hey I hate violence, but still I enjoy it if the right persons get a punch in their faces. And Matt was definitely one of those persons. I clenched my fists and narrowed my eyes. “I’m not a nerd!” I snarled. I know, I am a nerd, but that didn’t mean, I would let him call me one. He just rolled his eyes in an arrogant manner and walked away: “Whatever, little freak. Call me when you got enough money to buy yourself decent clothes.” I blinked, trying to hold back tears. I wasn’t one who cries because of every little shit, but I couldn’t help tears, when I was angry. And hell, was I angry right now! I know I shouldn’t let him provoke me, but sometimes I just got a short temper. Rising my fists, I walked after Matt, ready to punch him as hard as I could, but before I could even touch him, Liam’s fist met his face:” Oops, did I disfigure your face? Oh no, wait, you had always been this ugly.” “Mr. Wellington, Miss Adams, Detention!” Mr. White shouted. Great...I thought. It was always a miracle how fast a crowd disperse, when a teacher appears. At first I wanted to explain myself, but what could I have said? Matt was bleeding and I stood there, anger written all over my face and my fists raised. Bad timing I would say. I hold back a frustrated sigh and followed Mr. White, Liam was the rear. Maybe I was wrong, but I could swear that I heard a low chuckle behind me.
