Wonwoo's days were filled with emptiness and sorrow. He spent most of his time staying in the four walls of his room. He didn't pick up calls from his friends either, including Soojung. He just couldn't face anyone at the moment. His mom was worried of course, as to why Wonwoo never hung out with his friends recently. He liked keeping things to himself and carrying the burden alone. That was his problem.
"Wonwoo, can I come in?" Eomma's voice sounded from behind the door. Wonwoo replied with a heavy sigh, "Yes, Eomma."
She entered the room, gently shutting the door and sat beside the gloomy Wonwoo. "Hey, stop keeping everything to yourself. I'm your mother for a reason."
Wonwoo looked up to his mother with eyes that flashed worry. "Eomma, I'm confused. Everything's gone wrong." Wonwoo confided. "Let me guess. This is about Mingyu and that Soojung girl, right?" Eomma said that made Wonwoo perk up his ears. "How did you know?" His eyes widened. "Eh, mother instincts. And the way you look at Soojung-ah too. But Mingyu, I actually heard your fight the other night."
"Is it wrong to like someone? It's not, right?" Wonwoo asked like a kid who's uncertain of his actions. Eomma rubbed Wonwoo's back and told him, "It's not. What's wrong and regretful is not being able to tell them," She poked Wonwoo's chest lightly, "Keeping everything there. That's what's not right."
"I did tell her but Mingyu..." He looked down. "Ah, so that's what happened. Typical teenage love stories," Eomma joked and Wonwoo pouted.
Eomma added,"Well, patch things up with Mingyu. He's your best friend, someone you'll never lose. Soojung is someone special too but you can lose her to someone else. And that's okay. You're still young, there's still much to explore on your own. Worry about love later."
Wonwoo felt his spirits lift a bit by Eomma's words. Maybe she is right. There's so much to do on my own.
With that conversation, Wonwoo had decided to talk to Mingyu and Soojung, even if the situation is complicated.
Before sleeping, Wonwoo texted Mingyu.
Wonwoosh
I've got to talk to you tomorrow.
He didn't reply after half an hour and Wonwoo is patiently waiting for his text.
Meangyu :P
Sure
It was short and emotionless. Just what Wonwoo had expected. Mingyu has the right to be mad after all. It was Wonwoo's fault for not confiding in him, his best friend.
That morning, Wonwoo was waiting by Mingyu's house to walk with him to school, just like what they always do. Minutes later, Mingyu was out of the house, surprised to see Wonwoo standing by the door.
"Morning, Gyu." Wonwoo beamed at Mingyu who was still in shock. "Why are you here?" Mingyu questioned. "The question should be: Why haven't I been here for the past days?"
An awkward and uneasy atmosphere wrapped the two as they strolled together. Wonwoo was relieved by the thought that he's one step forward to fixing his relationship with Mingyu. Mingyu, on the other hand, had guilt all over him. How could Wonwoo be walking side by side with him when he's hurt him badly?
Wonwoo cleared his throat to break the silence and preceeded to tell Mingyu words he should've said sooner, "It's hard and awkward, I know. A million apologies wouldn't be enough for what I did. Not trusting you when you entrust me with everything you would never tell anyone else. You've been my friend for as long as I can remember, it's shameful...that I can't even tell you what I should've said long ago. I'm sorry."
Mingyu felt his heart clench as he listened. All he wanted was for Wonwoo to trust him with everything and literally anything, from the most pointless and random matters to the heaviest ones. He wants to be there for Wonwoo just like he does for him.
"I'm sorry too. I never acknowledged your feelings towards Soojung. That was very insensitive of me." Mingyu admitted remorsefully. Wonwoo's chest felt lighter and instantly, his mood was lifted. Wonwoo couldn't have been any happier.
When they arrived, Soojung was by the gate. "Soojung-ah!" Mingyu called out. Soojung turned to the direction of the sound and ran towards them, "Wonwoo..." She spoke. "Hi, Soojung." Wonwoo smiled lightly at her surprised face. She pointed at the two of them, "Together? Mingyu, Wonwoo, everything's okay now?" Mingyu chuckled and nodded his head yes, "Meanie is back!" Wonwoo just rolled his eyes at Mingyu.
The sun was setting and the trio were still taking their time, walking back home while chattering. "-and then Jeonghan just flipped his hair like the sassy person he is and it was so funny." Soojung was dying of laughter as she told her stories. "You sure are lucky you get to hang out with us cool kids." Wonwoo jokingly commented to which Soojung scoffed at, "Cool? Nah, you should be thankful I talk to you two losers."
Mingyu was in disbelief so he backfired, "No, you two should be thanking God that I came in your lives. God knows how boring your life would be without me and my beautiful face." Wonwoo facepalmed while Soojung put her lips in a thin line as she cringed at Mingyu's narcissistic statement.
"What?" Mingyu questioned the two but no one answered.
8:53 pm
It was chilly in Soojung's room, her feet were cold so she snuggled her blanket to stay warm. Her eyelids were heavy and she was at the verge of falling asleep until she felt her throat turn dry and her airway seemed to be blocked. Her heart clenched. It was as if a knife slashed through her chest multiple times.
She reached for her door slowly, stumbling and almost falling. She called for her Mom a few times but there was no answer.
Seconds later, her arms went numb and she felt a sharp pain running from her back to her shoulders. Her mind went blank for a moment and her vision blurred. Her heart still feels like it was being crushed. The pain was unbearable and unexplainable.
She suddenly recalled that she had aspirin in her drawer by the nightlight. She tried to crawl to the drawer but before she could, everything blacked out.
There was nothing to be seen. Just a bright light.

Some things are unexplainable. Why do things have to end this way? Why is it that when good things start to fill our lives, they immediately get taken away? There are so many questions but they remain unanswered.
Ok. This chapter was...hard to write. I have family members who suffer from heart diseases. It's scary how people could just be taken away in an instant. I hope you (reader) learn to value all the people in your life. Love them and care for them.
Thank you for existing, reader 😊
