[23]: Who Said Good Deeds Can Only Be Done By Good People?
"BAD DREAM," I HALF-SAID, half-whispered as I hiccuped.
Currently, I was sitting on the front steps with Seth. His arms were protectively around me, keeping me feeling safe and warm.
"It's okay, it's okay," he whispered, rubbing my arm.
I tried to calm down, taking in big breaths, and convincing myself that noting was happening between Janice and him.
"You think so?" I asked, lifting my head up from his chest.
To my dismay, he didn't look back at me一instead, he was just staring at the clear sky above us.
"Yeah." He said. "You're safe with me."
I grabbed this opportunity to think about all what happened today.
First, I denied that I liked Seth even though it's written all over me. Second, I was getting jealous and assuming because of Seth.
Why was I getting like this?
It's all because of Seth. My brain said.
No, it's because of the seminary. It caused the both of you to meet. My heart said.
No, no, no, no, no. It's because of Mrs. Brown. My brain said.
Well, I agree. My heart said.
Wait, it's not just that. My brain said.
What else?
Destiny.
Yeah, it一WHAT?!
Stop it. My conscience said.
That shut the both of them.
Thea, follow what Liza told you. That's the best thing to do now. Just wait, okay? You'll figure things out. Soon. It advised.
But then, I know I was getting too overprotective with Seth. He wasn't even mine at the first place.
So, what if it was really him who was with Janice? I know men have needs but would I just leave him alone with her?
I really, really still want to talk to Seth and spend the rest of the night like this, but I can't. I was getting sleepy and my puffy eyes weren't helping at all.
So what I did was lay my head on Seth's drying shirt (it got wet when I sobbed on him. Talk about embarrassing.) and closed my eyes.
Seth's P.O.V.
If I had my own version of dictionary, beside the words unpredictable, innocent, and amazing, there would be a picture of Thea.
Seriously, define unpredictable: Thea. Define innocent: Thea. And define... amazing: Thea.
There's something really different about her. She's not like the school geeks and nerds who sputter out science facts when they're nervous (don't ask me how I knew that).
Sure, she's smart and cares for her grades and is one of the teacher's pets but I tell you, she's different. She was like a star in the night sky that shined brighter than the others.
I'm getting corny, I know, but think about it. Why do you think this is happening to me?
If your answer is Thea, then you're definitely a genius. The sleeping girl beside me, who's head was rested on my chest and who's arm was draped around my stomach, was making me comfortable, warm and... wanted.
It had been such a long time since I felt the same thing.
Thinking about that made my heart clench.
Don't you dare think about that bitch. A dangerous voice inside me warned.
I sighed. Thea Hartens doesn't deserve me and I don't deserve her. Which means I can't fall for her and she can't fall for me because it simply would be devastating.
Looking at my incredible invisible watch (man, you wish you had a watch this cool), it was already deep in the night and the air was getting chiller so I carefully removed Thea's head from my chest, let it rest against the wall and I stood up. Lifting Thea bridal style, I carried her to her room.
Half-way of carrying her up the stairs, she suddenly nuzzled her head against my chest.
That made me smirk. I could feel her breaths as she exhales air, it sends tingles towards my body.
Continuing our journey up the stairs, we finally reached the first door which was the entrance to our room. I opened the door in the most possible way (which was using my left hand with my left arm carrying Thea's legs. got it?).
Once we were in, I set Thea down the bed and pulled a blanket on her, covering her from her feet to her waist. After seconds of staring at her sleep, I finally decided to lie down too.
Well hello there, floor.
Gathering the sleeping material, I set them down the floor and lie down on it.
Hey floor, I know when I wake up, I'll have a sore back. I said mentally. So I'm gonna say something to you in advance. Fuck you.

THEA'S P.O.V.
The sun was waking me up.
Blinking my eyes open, I tried to make the surroundings out. Yellow house, small space一this was Hazel's house. From below, I mean, on the floor, I heard Seth groan and cuss.
"Awwww, shit."
I rolled over to my side where he was and saw him groaning from his sore back.
I rolled back on my back and instantly felt guilty. It was my fault on the first place.
Sitting up on the bed, I peeked at Seth again.
"Hi," I greeted sweetly, trying to look innocent.
He noticed me and he sent me a glare.
Ooopps.
He tried to stand up but he just groaned.
Wow, this is soooo amazing. Mr. Fighter could handle multiple blows but couldn't stand the pain of sore back.
"I heard that," Seth suddenly said as he successfully got up.
I'm sure he's mad at me now. Maybe because he had to carry me from downstairs to here last night and I didn't let him sleep on the bed.
Promise, next time he won't have to sleep on the floor again.
"Hey, I'm sorry." I said when he walked towards the door.
He turned to me. "For?"
"Letting you sleep on the floor." I replied. "Next time, I'll let you sleep on the bed."
Pssshhhh, I hope he forgets I ever said this.
"It's alright Princess, but you keep that promise. It might come handy." He said.
I frowned and pouted at him.
He just chuckled that chuckle I love.
"Hey, wanna go to breakfast?" He asked.
I raised an eyebrow at him. "With you?"
He rolled his eyes. "No, no, the door. You go to breakfast with the door." He sarcastically said with matching hand gestures towards the door. "Of course, me."
"Guess it won't hurt." I said and kicked the covers off me and got up from the bed.
Seth opened the door and I got out first. Seth followed, closed the door and together, we made our way to the kitchen.
"Hi there," Beth said as soon as she saw us. She was cooking food while Liza was wiping some washed dishes and Baby Aly was in her crib, playing with some stuffed toys.
"Good morning," I said and Seth did the same.
"Sit down," Hazel urged us.
We followed, sitting side by side as Liza watched us, smiling.
We waited for Beth to finish cooking breakfast when Janice finally came down. I couldn't look at her after what I saw her do last night.
The things that happened replayed on my head like a broken record. Last night.
Thea, what happened, is past. And at least, it wasn't Seth she was with. My heart said.
"Good morning, mom. Good morning, Grandma." she greeted, settling down on the spot across me, completely meaning to forget greeting us. But it's alright. I don't want to hear greetings from a hoe.
Thea! You did not just call her that! My heart scolded me. That's so mean. You've never been like this!
My heart was right.
And just then, my stomach rumbled. I guess it didn't make a loud noise because no one reacted.
Except for Seth.
He was trying to stifle his laugh and uncontrollably, I gave him a slap on his arm.
He stopped and, oh well, thank God.
After a few minutes later, breakfast was served. There was a loaf of bread, scrambled eggs, cheese and some bacon.
I eyed the bacon warily.
"Hey, you think the bacon's real? As in not a squirrel or something?" I whispered to Seth.
"Looks real to me. But I guarantee it's from their own pigs and not a grocery store." He replied in a low voice. Then he laughed at whatever expression that was seen on my face.
"I always love seeing what worries you, you know. Not studying before an exam? No, it doesn't worry you. Questionable food? Yes." He said.
And, right now, at this very moment, he was giving me one of those rare smiles I never thought he could own.

SETH'S P.O.V.
Sweet baby Jesus and his mother Mary, my back hurt like a motherfucker. It still hurts and I feel so old.
"Let me pack it for you," Thea suddenly said. Oh yeah, we were getting ready to leave.
Such angel she is.
"Thanks," I said and lay my sore back on the bed, putting my hands under my head. "Ahhh, feels great. What made you do that?"
"Do what?" Thea asked, not bothering to look at me.
"Volunteer to pack my stuff." I replied.
"I feel bad you know," she replied. "I know your back still hurts and it's my fault. Sorry I've been selfish."
"It's okay. I mean, I'm used to selfish people." I replied.
She froze and her eyes turned watery.
Oh God, what did I do now?
You dick, you just called her selfish. A little nagging voice said.
"Oh no, no, no, no, no. I didn't mean to call you that." I said, preventing her from bursting to tears and as I tried to get up. With such luck, I managed to sit up.
Dude, I think her conscience was killing her awhile ago and now, you just made her worse. The same little voice told me.
"Thea, come here." I said, opening my arms for her.
She looked at me hesitantly for awhile and then obliged. She sat beside me and I wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
I think she finally trusted me when she rested her hand on my chest.
"Thei, you know I didn't mean to call you that." I said, resting my chin on her head.
"I know." She said.
"So you understand?"
"I do."
"You forgive me?" I asked as I remived my chin from his head. She turned and looked at me straight in the eyes.
She smiled a little. "Yes." Then she broke out of my hold and stood up, made way to my clothes and continued packing them.
I smiled mentally as I turned towards the window, overlooking the trees.
See what I told you? She really is different. She's already 16 but still acts like 5.
And hey, don't tell her I told you that

THEA'S P.O.V.
Oh God, I thought I was going to explode when Seth held me in his arms awhile ago in our room.
Seriously, I was like, OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. Plus my heart was going BONG BONG BONG like gongs in Chinese New Year.
Inner teen girl me activated.
OMGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
"What's with the smiling?" I heard Seth ask.
Okay, I was actually smiling because
1). We had a "moment" awhile ago that is actually making me insane. (And that wasn't just the first time!)
2). We were finally away from Janice. Seriously, I would really love to stay in Hazel's house but if it wasn't for Janice sending off bad vibes, it really won't be a big deal for me to stay at the Rasiven's even for a week.
"You know Thea, you look good when you smile." He said. "But then, the smile you're wearing right now is really creeping me out." He continued, looking outside the window of the bus we're riding back to the resort.
"I just happy. Don't mind me." I said, plugging my earphones in my phone.
"Stop smiling like that." He said.
"I shall smile the way I want." I said, my chin held up.
"Oh?" He replied. Then he cleared his throat and said, "By the power of absolute doofusness, I command you to stop smiling." He actually said that with matching hand gestures.
I rolled my eyes and relaxed my face from smiling. Treasure by Bruno Mars was playing on my phone and I put the volume of the music to 80%.
Let me treasure you, you, oh
Unexpected as lightning, one of the earbuds on my ear was ripped away. And yes, the idiot was the one who did that. He put the earbud on his ear too and enjoyed the music that was only meant for me.
Grunting mentally, I shifted my sitting position and folded my arms across my chest.

As soon as we got to the resort Wennelyn directed us back to the function hall to share our experiences.
"We can see that although their life is hard, they still love each other, making everyone feel welcome and wanted. And even though we weren't part of the family, they made sure we felt the same like the other family members do." I heard a girl share.
Beside me, Seth murmured something like who cares and stupid shit.
I think Seth got hit by what the girl said. Oh, I remember, Seth's father left his family. I feel for you, bro.
"So, what do you think is the relevance of this experience to our training?" Wennelyn asked.
Of course I had an answer but a girl in the front row beat me to it.
"The relevance of this experience is that us, leaders-in-training, should know that state of the people you're leading. We must never forget the people living far away from us. They also should have attention for us to provide their needs." She said.
"Exactly. You see, while we're enjoying our lifetime, some people exactly feel the opposite. Take not, here are the factors: the food, presence of family members, the family's state - if they're fighting or not - and the surroundings." Wen said.
"But also, most of the negative factors are caused by one thing: Poverty." Annette added.
A girl on my right raised her hand.
"Yes?"
"Awhile ago, you said most of these negative factors are caused by poverty." She said. "Why not all?"
"Let's use one factor that might not be caused by poverty, which is 'presence of family members'. Even though you're rich, this one factor can still affect your life." Annette said.
"For example, Wennelyn has a multi-billionaire father and a fashion designer mother. If Wennelyn goes home from school, where are her parents? Most of the time, they're at work, business trips, business meetings." Annette added.
"So there's a tendency that the child will learn negative things because of the lack of parental guidance?" The girl asked.
"Exactly. Negative deeds, negative attitude and the like." Annette said.
The girl seemed satisfied and sat back down.
I glanced up the clock.
Sigh, one more hour before lunch time.
