Five.
I awoke the next day with the worst headache. Yet despite my hangover, I felt pretty... amazing. Like when your favourite song comes on the radio and you're pleasantly surprised - but the joy lasts longer.
'Beeeeeth,' a voice broke me from my half-asleep trance. I slowly lifted my head from the pillow, my eyes focussing on a sheepish looking Calum.
Jesus, was the boy never taught how to knock on a door?
'Oh good, you're alive. Now get up,' he said, tugging at my covers.
'Hang on, two questions,' I mumbled, sitting up slowly, 'first: Why are you waking me up on a Saturday, and second: How the hell did you get in here?'
'Answer one: because you promised you'd come go-karting with me and the boys. Answer two: It's called a door. And in your case, a door that is unlocked.' Calum smiled.
'Ugh; goddamn vodka, making me forget to lock the door.'
'But vodka is great! It makes you do some crazy stuff though..'
'Isnt that the truth,' I muttered.
'Ooh, what happened last night then?'
I tried to ignore Calum's waggling eyebrows and knowing grin, but failed. 'Nothing! Nothing happened, why would you think-'
'I know.'
What! 'Excuse me?'
'Ashton may or may not have followed me back to my flat begging for a ride home and blurted everything.'
'Shit shit shit. That is so embarrassing, oh my god.'
'Meh, shit happens; I kissed my cousin once when I was drunk. Now get your lazy arse up.' Calum tugged at my arm, shoving me towards my ensuite.
I showered and changed into denim shorts and a floral tank top, throwing my still damp hair into a messy bun. Calum had eaten half the contents of my cupboards by the time I was ready, and was whining at me for tying my shoelaces 'like a snail'. Snails can't even wear shoes!
We took Calum's car to the Karting place, and waited for the others to arrive.
Soon enough, an old grey ford pulled into the car park, the driver stepping out along with the two passengers.
'Howdy,' Ashton called as he, Luke and Michael walked across the asphalt towards us.
'I was gonna try let you guys down lightly, but you're about to get your miniature-car-driving arses whipped,' Luke stated with a straight face.
As we went to choose our helmets, Ashton handed me a neon pink one, and grinned.
'Since you're the girl of the group.'
I shook my head at him, chuckling as I buckled down the ridiculously bright headgear.
'Sorry about last night, by the way,' he whispered, his face now showing concern.
'I'ts okay,' I whispered back. So he didn't mean to kiss me.
'I'm glad. Come on, lets beat Luke,' Ash's dimples returned as he lead the way to the go-karts.
-----------------
'Sure. Do you want salad or fries with that?'
'Fries, of course!' Michael exclaimed, his response causing our waiter to chuckle. We were in a local restaurant getting a meal after a long day of go-karting. And of course, Luke had won most of our races like he said he would. But I came second overall!
'And what would you like, gorgeous?' The waiter turned to me, his blue eyes sparkling. I blushed; he was pretty cute.
'Erm, can I get the lasagne, please?'
'You certainly can,' he winked, causing me to let out a giggle. Ashton cleared his throat.
'Uh, yeah, I'll have the fish of the day, thanks.'
The waiter blinked at him before nodding slowly and taking our menus away for us.
'God, that guy is sleazy,' Ashton chuckled, watching the young man walk off. Michael shrugged.
'He's okay, he offered me chips so he must be a good guy.'
'Yeah, he was just being polite to Beth,' Luke nodded.
'Polite? That was shameless flirting back there.'
'So?' I asked, probably sounding a bit more harsh than I had intended. I didn't mean to be so bitchy towards Ashton, but what was his problem? He was acting like he was my father.
I returned his stare for a few seconds before he finally regained his voice.
'I just think he was being a douche about it, I mean-'
'Ashton, let it go.'
