Prologue - July 27 - Summer

The sun was already starting to set as I was walking back home in the hot midsummer's air of Nevada. I had just moved here from the four-season state of Minnesota. Most people may say that we are nothing but farmers and rednecks but we are much more than that. We are probably one of the most normal state of all. Well, at most parts.

Beep! Beep! A car honked. I didn't even bother to turn around to see who it was, even though I'm the only person walking these streets and that was the only car that was driving. Yes, we live about 3 miles away from the nearest person but it's not weird for me. It's not as if anything happens. At least nothing cool.

Beep! Beep! It honked again. "Hey you there! You need a ride?" someone from the car shouted out from behind me.

I turned and noticed that the car was filled with guys. "Uh, no thanks!" I shouted to them as politely as I could.

"Oh come one! We don't bite. Just want to be nice and help out a fellow stranger," he paused for a second then added, "a pretty one too." He smiled mischievously and I couldn't help but feel creeped out.

"I'm grateful for your... generous offer but I'll have to.. umm, reject it. I'm almost to my... destination anyways," I said hoping that ended the conversation. I started walking away from the car, a little faster than necessary.

I heard a car door slam shut and broke out into a run. No! Why me?! I thought to myself.

A hand grabbed my waist from behind and the other hand found its way to my mouth. The hand's kept me from screaming and moving away. I already knew that even if I screamed, no one would hear me.

I felt the hands loosen for just a second and took that moment to try to make a run for it but not even a second later, another hand grabbed me and placed me into a headlock.

"Let go!" I shrieked, fighting against the strong hold of my captor. A hand grabbed me by the chin and brought my head up to meet the eyes of an unknown man.

"Maybe a kiss and we'll think about it," he sad chuckling. He was so close I could see his yellow teeth and the big gap in between. His breath reeked of alcohol but he didn't look drunk or anything close to it at all. It seemed too perfect. Like it was all planned.

I stared at him with all the hatred I could build up with my hazel eyes. "Go away! No one will ever think of kissing you even if you're the last man alive!" I shouted to his face and spit at him.

He wiped his face and I saw anger flash in his eyes. He smiled and then raised a hand and slapped me right across my right cheek. My cheek burned as if I actually put fire up against it. I felt my face turn hot.

If looks could kill, he'll be dead now. As I gave him my death stare, he grabbed me by the chin again, a little more forceful. I took this chance to kick him in the groin. "One for one," I said barely a whisper. Now we're even.

"Oh we're not even yet sweetheart," he said with a smile forming on his lips. "Grab the cloth!" he shouted aloud to no one in particular. After a few seconds, two different guys walked towards us with a handkerchief and a bottle of a liquid substance. The gapped teeth guy grabbed the bottle and handkerchief and started pouring some of the liquid onto the handkerchief. He smiled at me then brought the handkerchief up to my face so that it covered both my mouth and nose.

"Eurmph," I screamed into the handkerchief. I repeatedly screamed until my eyes started closing.

"Hey! Who the hell are you-" I heard one of the guys yell. His yell was followed by his scream. I heard the gap-toothed guy mumbled something under his breath. Still holding the handkerchief to my mouth and nose, he told the guy to let me go and told him they'll deal with me later. My two captors released me and they both started running towards something. My eyes were starting to get blurry so I didn't see what they were going after.

Losing consciousness, I fell backwards to the sidewalk. Falling into a deep sleep, I saw a flash of blue with the last of what my eyes can take.

I woke up to the sound of footsteps walking and crunching rocks and twigs below. I kept my eyes closed because of the nice breeze and the safety I felt. I felt as if I was flying - maybe not flying but floating - in the clouds.

Memories of the earlier event rushed back to me making me open my eyes. My eyes met the starry night sky filled with stars and moving, black trees because of the lightless night.

Wait, moving?

"Ah!" I shrieked. My shrieked was followed by my loud, "ow!" as my bottom met the hard cemented sidewalk. I looked up to find a boy who looked around my age. His hair looked jet black and his eyes - what was the color of his eyes?

"Dammit!" he said covering his left ear. I must've screamed into it without knowing. "You didn't have to scream that loud. I think I might be death now." He kept rambling on and on about something else but I didn't hear him at all.

I knew I was staring but I couldn't tear my eyes away no matter how hard I tried. This boy was a GORGEOUS. I wasn't really into the dark and mysterious type but on him - it was perfect.

He caught me staring and stopped talking. "Hey, are you okay? You should be because you're awake. I guess you didn't inhale as much of the Rohypnol as I thought you had so you should be fine now."

I looked at him and tried to think of what to say to him. "I-I," I said stuttering. "Thank you," I finally got out.

"Oh," he said blinking. "Uh, that's alright? I mean you're welcome."

I smiled at him. I didn't have to know him. I already know that he's those guys who don't usually mess up. "Um, I hope you don't mind me asking but, have we ever met?"

He flinched at the question. "Nope. Never," he said shaking his head.

"Are you sure? You don't look as sure as you sound," I said suspiciously.

"Well, bye!" he said turning around, starting to walk away.

"Wait!" I yelled out starting to stand up. "Ow!" my bottom stung from being dropped.

He stopped and turned his head to the side. He put two fingers up and did a quick wave.

"Bye Aura. I'll introduce myself the next time we meet," he promised and started walking again.

"Wait!" I shouted out again. "How do you know my name?" This time, he didn't stop. Instead, he shouted out, "You're home by the way."

I looked behind me and saw my yellow house. It was a shade of green because of the night. All the lights were off so I knew that my mom was still at her office. I was confused and shocked because I don't ever remember mentioning where I live to anyone. I turned back to him to see - nothing. He was gone. Like he vanished in thin air.

I stood up, ignoring the pain my whole body felt, and walked to my front door. I opened the unlocked front door with a twist and walked in. Not bothering to turn on the lights, I went straight to the stairs - which were adjacent to the front door. I walked up slowly and when I finally got to my bedroom door, I walked to my bed and fell on it with a thud. I didn't bother changing into my pajamas and just let the exhaustion overwhelm me.
