I ran into my garden to find it full of small delicate creatures. They had delicate pink, yellow and powder blue dresses with tight little bows at the back, there were only blond creatures today in my garden and that was bad news, I had hoped to see the only brunette creature of the whole group. She was the only one that really noticed my presence and she told me the other faeries (as she had called them) were mean to her because of her hair, she held it in two plaits with blue bows at the end, with a powder blue dress she was definitely beautiful, although all the faeries were, but yesterday had been the only day I had seen her.
They all had pretty delicate faces and their hair was done into plaits or left loose to swing with the wind, I was about to step back inside and leave the faeries in peace when I noticed one lying on the floor, I hadn’t seen it until then but the faeries, all of them had a pair of wings practically transparent, this made it look like they were floating when actually they were using their wings to fly.
I crouched down next to the small faerie, this one had a pale yellow dress and she didn't have any plaits so her hair was spread out every which way on the grass. The faerie had obviously broken its wing and was in very great pain, the colour had drained from her face and it was all she could do to not pass out there next to the red rose. Yet still she found the energy to flinch away from me as I kneeled beside her, when I moved my hand towards her gently, she closed her eyes and moved her mouth very quickly saying words I couldn't quite place. I didn't have time to dwell upon it though because as soon as her words came out the rose lurched forward pricking me with one of its thorns, but instead of going back to its position it sunk the thorn further into my hand as I screamed pulling away. My mom ran outside and helped me take the thorn out, but when she asked what had happened I knew I couldn't tell her the truth, I could never tell her about the faeries.
That was the first time I discovered the Enchanted World.
Sliding my foot gently into the hole I used it to push myself up and go over the stone wall smoothly, after I was on the other side my bag was thrown over and I caught it just before it touched the wet mud, no need to get my homework wet before I even handed it in. I pulled the pink bag onto my shoulder and looked up expectantly, but instead of seeing Tom's face over the wall I heard his shaky voice from the other side.
“Are you sure about this?” I wanted to climb back over the wall to see his frightened expression as he looked up the wall and swallowed hard, but of course my imagination was supporting all these facts so I couldn't really laugh, not without proof. Shame.
“ A hundred percent, you saw me go up, just use the holes in the old wall to push yourself up and then... Ill tell you what you need to do then, but first jump over the wall. Oh and pass your bag” A minute later his bag was flying through the air straight for the mud, I swore and ran for it but I slipped on the mud as I caught it in my expecting hands and my feet flew from underneath me, but the fall never came.
“Oh my god, Leyla, did you just levitate!?” I opened my eyes and found myself clutching Toms bag in a crushing grip against my chest, but my feet were on the floor and I didn't have a single drop of mud on my school uniform.
“Did I?” I asked surprised of the outcome of my suicidal mission just to save Tom's bag. “I closed my eyes as I was falling so I didn't see it”
“Well I saw you slipping and you almost touching the ground, but then- Then you just flew up and fell gently on your feet” He jumped down from the wall and almost fell into the mud himself but saved it just in time. “So what was it you wanted to show me?”
After school I had finally worked up the courage to tell someone about the faeries I saw everywhere, delicate pretty ones in my yard, scary savage ones at the edge of the forest, and I hadn't even dared to go further in, faeries scared me too much. Although most seemed to shy away from me, even the ones that had retractable tongues like chameleons and caught insects trapping them with it from a high branch of a tree. They were all afraid of me, no matter how scary they were themselves.
