Chapter 25
| S a m a n t h a s p ov

I walk into my house and drop my book bag in shock. My jaw drops. My living room is covered in beauty supplies and dresses. I mentally gag. My mom pops up from behind the couch holding a flat iron.

I scrunch up my face. "Uh mom, what is all this?"

"IM MAKING YOU GO TO THE DANCE SURPRISE!" She yells with a huge smile on her face.

"You're what?!"

She grins at me. "You're going to that dance. Whether you like it or not."

She's got to be kidding me. This must be a joke. Pssh, I can't go to that dance. I refuse. If I go, I'll be a complete loner the whole time and I'll be forced to watch Jace hang out with Mindy. Ugh, just the thought of going to the dance gives me so much anxiety.

"Mooom I can't." I groan.

She crosses her arms. "I don't care. You're going and that's final. What kind of teenager sits at home on the night of a dance and reads? That's no fun. I want my little girl to live a little. You always refuse to go to school dances and I'm tired of that. Just please go? For me?"

I don't want to at all. But I can't disappoint my mother. I mean, that would be cruel. She did birth my after all.

I sigh and force myself to crack a smile. "I'll go. But I'm only going because you're making me. " I laugh.

My mom squeals and I roll my eyes. Sometimes I feel more mature than her.

I'll just avoid Jace and Mindy as much as I possibly can. They'll be ignoring me too so it probably won't be that hard. Maybe the dance has potential to be fun after all. I look down at my usual boring clothes and look back at my mom.

"So where do we start?" I smile.

I sit in the changing room of the Men's tuxedo department thinking; This dance is gonna be such a drag. I'm gonna be forced to hang out with bitchest girl alive the whole night. I stand up and admire myself in the mirror. I run my fingers through my hair and sigh. Ugh I wish I was taking Sam to the dance. My thoughts are interrupted by a soft tap on the changing room door.

"Jace, are you alright in there? Let me see how you're looking hun." My mom whispers. I can tell she's excited. I finish connecting my red tie to my black suit and open the door.

My mom immediately smiles. "Jace! You look so handsome!" she covers her mouth and fakes a sniffle. "My babies growing up!"

I laugh and wrap my mom in a hug. "Thanks." we let go.

I quickly go back into the dressing room and change back into my regular clothes. Once I'm finish me and my mom purchase the tux and exit the store.

"Jace I'll go buy the rose. Go get your hair cut. Meet me at the car when you're finished." My mom hands me some money and we part our separate ways in the mall.

As I walk towards the barbershop all I can think about is Sam. She doesn't deserve to be sitting at home on the night of a dance reading.
