Chills and warmth spread across her skin all at once; his thumb caressed her shoulder, arm around her petite frame. Her head rested in the crook of his neck and they talked about Twenty One Pilots, the artist they weren't too into.

Though, like a slap in the face, she remembered just seconds before the one he had mentioned:

his girlfriend.

Without emotion, in apathy, he approached her. Goosebumps trailed down her arms as she collapsed her shoulders inward in some attempt at achieving warmth. He drew closer.

"Are you cold or something?"

She shivered and responded, "I'm always cold."

There wasn't a shred of hesitation as he brought his arms around her in a snug embrace. She was unfamiliar to the physical touch but recognized the warmth and let herself melt into him. Ear pressed against his chest, she heard a sound that left her in awe: his heartbeat. It was a sound that she had not been introduced to so affectionately before.

Already in a daze, it did not help her when suddenly she was in an embrace that came from behind. In unbelief, she brought her hand up to hold his forearm while she tilted her head back. His profile came into view: the lips that create chatter, the dark lashes that frame tired eyes. She saw it all up close. Her mind could relax and pulled her mouth into a smile, so she said hello and sighed his name.

She pulled her cap down low over her eyes as she stood in front of the door, waiting for the lunch dismissal bell. A gentle hand closed around her arm. First mistaking it for a classmate trying to pass through, she stepped aside only to see familiar chocolate hues. With a smile that reached her cheeks, she gave him a meek hello. His arm came around her in a hug, just at the height where her head fit snugly beneath his chin.

"You okay?" He asked with concern, leaving her to sit atop a desk in front of her.

"I'm fine." She answered, though she wasn't sure herself if the answer were true.

It's felt like ages.

"You sure?" He prodded and she gave a simple nod.

They were together in silence until the bell rang seconds later.
