Chapter Ten

Vella's POV

I was wandering around the streets during the hours of darkness. The sound of fighting and arguing echoed through the empty avenue, I followed where the sound came from, and caught a glimpse of Johnny being beat by Socs. I had to do something, and it had to be quick. I bolted over to them and pushed the Socs off of him, shoving them to the ground.

"If you lay a finger on this kid, then you'll all be dead men for sure." I threatened as they went back to their shiny mustangs and drove away. "Vella... I feel like I can't even fight, it's like I'm too weak." Johnny sighed sadly. This is where my advice comes in like a charm.

"Listen to me carefully, Johnnycake." I said slowly as I put a hand on his shoulder. "Wake up every morning and tell yourself that you're a badass bitch from hell and that no one can fuck with you and then don't let anybody fuck with you." I said in a sassy way, a smile tugging at my lips.

Johnny couldn't help but laugh, he understood my advice though, which is pretty great. "Now you can proceed walking, Johnny. I doubt that the Socs will hurt you  again." I said and he walked off, thanking me for the advice.

Madaline's POV

I decided to go to the park and relax there for a while, since I had nothing else to do. Honestly, it was freezing tonight. I might as well freeze to death, since I didn't have a jacket or sweater. It was a bad time to wear a tank top. Walking to the fountain, I sat on the edge of it.

I could feel myself getting goosebumps from the cold temperature. Winter is definitely around the corner, I thought, looking up to see Johnny sitting next to me. Man, I almost jumped outta my skin, he scared the living daylights out of me! "Aren't you cold in that tank top?" He asked.

"What, me? N-no... I'm fine. Y-y-you don't need to worry about me." I stuttered and shook my head. He sighed and put his jacket over my shoulders. "I know you're lying." He said softly as he put his arms around me. Johnny was so warm, he was like a teddy bear.

I snuggled in Johnny's arms. He accidentally pushed me into the extremely cold water. "J...Johnny!" I panicked and grabbed his hand, dragging him down with me.

Vella's POV

I went into the Curtis home and spotted Dally there. I caught his attention, causing him to walk over to me. "Why did you run away from me after school? Are you afraid of loving me?" He raised an eyebrow.

"I am not afraid for your information." I crossed my arms. "Really? Prove it to me."

I didn't know what to do. I mean, I sort of like him, but I can't tell him that! I slapped him across the face and ran to Ponyboy's room, locking the door. He began to knock multiple times. "What the hell was that, Vella?" He asked. I don't think I should fall in love with him, but I... I don't know what to do.

"You... You say, that you love rain, but you open your umbrella when it rains. You say that you love the sun, but you find a shadow spot when the sun shines. You say that you love the wind, but you close your windows when the wind blows. This is why I'm afraid... Because you might love me too.." I confessed, I sometimes tend to talk like that at times like these.

Dally remained silent for a moment, then I unlocked and opened the door, with tears running down my cheeks.
