Running down the halls on your first day because your late, isn't a good start to the school year I guess.

I couldn't hear the bell, it was only then I realised everyone had gone to lesson and I was alone, wondering the massive hallways.

I find room 17 and knock on the door politely.

I see the teacher come to the door, then her mouth starts to move.

I have no fucking idea what she's saying, but she points to an empty desk, where a dark haired boy is sat, doodling on his arm.

It seems to be a picture of a young girl, around the age of twelve, sat with a boy around nine or ten.

I wanted to speak to him so badly, but the teachers talking and I don't know how loud my voice will be.

I decided to pass a note to him.

Hey, I'm Will, the person sat next to you.

That drawing on your hands really good, what's your name.

I slid it across the desk.

Seconds later I saw the boy slide across another note.

You don't want to know me, I can't speak very well.

That confused me.

How can he not speak very well but have perfect English hand writing?

I began to scribble down another note.

Well I can't speak very well either, doesn't stop me from having friends!

That was a little lie.

I've never really had friends because of me not hearing them, it annoys them and they get frustrated and leave me out.

I passed the note along and watched the boys pretty eyes scan across the paper.

He began to move his hand across the paper with his pen, writing words that I would read in seconds.

Well I'm Nico. How do you not speak well?

I read the note, satisfied with that I could be rejected within seconds.

Haha... I'm kind of deaf, sorry if you don't want to get to know me now!

I have been to a lot of schools where they welcome disabled people, most of the time people are nice and smile and don't get put off with my deafness, but then you get the people who can't stand you.

'Nico' scribbled down something.

I don't mind, I prefer talking with sign language than speaking anyways, I used to be deaf myself.

The last line made me smile, someone understood me, someone knows what it's like not to hear.

Lesson ended too quickly and I was on my way to second class when Nico came up to me.

He signed rather fast 'what lesson do you have now?'

You can tell he had been deaf by the way he was so used to it.

'Let me just check, one sec' I signed back.

Nico looked over my shoulder then signed 'I have the same day as you'

I was happy, at least someone that can communicate to me is nice.

We walked to class in the busy hallways.

The teachers mouth began to move.

Nico signed me what the teacher had said and then we sat down.

The teacher started talking while I zoned out, no point in even coming to school when you can only read English.

Suddenly Nico started signing really fast, telling me everything the teacher had said.

I wrote down while he signed, this will help me get my grades up.

Class soon finished and it was break, it was only morning, it feels like I should be going home now.

Time skip - after school

I walked home, along with Nico.

We would walk home and see if we go the same way.

Right now we have been going together.

Eventually I reached my house, Nico seemed to have stopped, looking surprised.

'You literally live next door to me!' He signed quickly.

'I do?'
