Year 2005
Chapter 1
So, we just left. We left everything. The past. The bad parts, the good parts. Gave the attorney all the paperwork and never looked back. Moved from place to place, never staying long. Not talking. Huh. Figures why i never had any friends. Just so called 'acquaintances'. Mom keeps mentioning New York, i figured it was time to start packing again.
"Hey Chloe! Why are you crying? Don't be sad!" He asked urgently, putting his hand on mine.
"I dropped my ice cream!" I sobbed.
"Here, stop crying. You can share mine, I don't mind" He said smiling. "Really? Thank you," I said, "You're my best friend!"
"Yup, and don't you ever forget that"
Even though it was for a year, that year was filled with surprises. He and i had started out as friends from the beginning. After that, our friendship grew, and soon, we were best friends. We shared secrets, I looked after him when he was sick. He comforted me when I was down and out. He called me Princess, as he said I was as precious as a gemstone, like a princesss. He once told me something I would never forget.
"Hey Chloe?"
"Yeah?"
"You know that you're my best friend, my princess and I'm never going to leave you, right?"
"Really? Pinky promise me?"
"Yup"
"Hey wait, why do you call me princess in the first place?"
"Well, I think you are like that princess Ariel who was willing to be her true and real self. You and Ariel are alike, to me at least. And you're my princess and don't you ever forget that."
"If you break our pinky promise I'll never forgive you."
"Same to you my princess"
I squealed as he tapped my shoulder and screamed "You're it!" And we spent the rest of the afternoon like that.

It was the day before my birthday. He had just left. Never hinted so much as a clue. Never said good bye even. I was broken for the next few days. He had promised me. He had. I hoped for days and days. Hoping he would come back. That he just had some problems he never told me. Those days turned into months. Then everything else happened. Then I learned to stop holding on. I learnt to let go. And never believe things would always stay the same forever. That promises made would be broken eventually.
Never believed in another one. They were all lies. And I learned to believe once upon a time and happily ever after never existed.
Neither did princesses.
