Chapter 4
I glanced at the clock on my phone.
"Its freakin' 8 and i haven't had dinner. Piss off and leave me alone."
I snapped and locked my phone. It rang again, holding in my anger, I just turned it off. I took a bath and put on an oversized shirt and some shorts. Walking down to the kitchen, I grabbed a pack of cup noodles and poured the hot water in.
I sat there at the table and just thought for a while. Its been a long time since i had a flashback like that. And of all people who had to see it, he had. I winced as my mind went back to Manchester, where i had friends, where my mom and i used to live. And then him. My best friend since i could remember. I couldn't remember his name. Sad huh? But he left me. I couldn't forget that, ever. I turned bitter, hah.
To add insult to the injury, my mom got diagnosed with cancer the year I turned eight. . The year I stopped hoping. The year I stopped feeling and letting people come into my life. You could say my heart was frozen. I wouldn't mind, sometimes I thought like that too. Mom's going through chemo but im not sure how it would help anymore. A ring broke my train of thoughts. Cussing, I went over and picked up the landline. "Hello?"
"Hey, babe. Wanna talk yet?"
I puked mentally and felt goosebumps. How the heck did he get my numbers?
"Are you freaking serious? Stalker much? I think you have a problem respecting a thing called PRIVACY. But because of your jock peabrain, i'll assume you haven't got the message that don't really like you harrassing me and neiter do i owe you and explaination at all. Stop calling me, you asshole!"
I hung up angrily. Who did he think he was? My dad? No. My dad left us years ago, he wouldn't have bothered. I laughed bitterly.
It rang again and I picked it up with a "What?!"
"Chloe! Mind your tone. I heard about what happened at the cafe! Are you alright?"
I heard my mom's soothing voice and I instantly relaxed.
"Yeah, mom. I'm fine. Don't worry about me"
We exchanged some small talk and she told me she'd be back by Sunday. Its Monday and how am I gonna face that asshole at school tomorrow, this is going to be a long week.
------------
Tuesday. Today is the day we go through gym. Where our pathetic excuse for a teacher would tell us what way to injure ourselves more often than not. Today we were playing the game I disliked the most. Dodgeball. Against another class in fact. All I had was Flynn and he was much more athletic than I was. So I expected to be out soon.
I just wandered behind the crowd as the game started, looking at Flynn once more, he whispered. "Chlo, watch your back."
And with that, a ball zoomed towards me and the words Flynn said rang through my head as i sidestepped and it hit the wall. I couldn't mask my shock. Even Flynn smirked but before i could shout a warning, a ball hit him in the chest and he was out. The game got serious and soon it was down to 2 of them and 2 of us. I gulped, it was me and a jock against a girl and... crap. It was that stalker.
My eyes widened as he blew a fake kiss in my direction, bringing up a wave of nausea (not the good kind, mind you.) and with my moment of weakness, the girl threw the ball towards me and i closed me eyes and reached my hands out, bracing myself for the impact but it didn't come. I opened one eye slowly and the whole gym had quietened down. I couldn't see as someone was standing in front of me, furrowing my eyebrows i took a step back. That guy took a ball for me? Heck no. He whipped his head back with a smirk plastered on his face.
"Hey, Doll."
I could feel the girl's glare boring into me but i picked up a ball, threw it full force at the girl who then fell on her butt promptly. Smiling victoriously, I sneered in that guy's direction and stalked off to the showers.
Idiots, I thought as I remembered the looks of disbelief i received. A hand grabbed my arm and turned me around. Flynn.
"This is the girls' shower, Flynn. Unless you had a gender change that i didn't know of, i suggest you leave before a pack of screaming hyenas arrive." I smirked as the shock came over his face. Realising it was a joke he turned on the tap and put his hands at an angle where the water would hit me. Squealing, I did the same and soon we were both soaked. Laughing, I noticed Flynn wasn't looking at my face anymore. A blush crept up his cheeks as he kept his eyes on the floor.
"Er, Chlo? I think you'll need a change of clothes."
I looked down at myself and gasped. I felt my cheeks burn as I dashed into a cubicle and locked it. Gods, why was I so stupid? My white tank top was soaked and my bra was visible.
"Flynn! This is all your fault! Get me something to wear!" I screamed as I heard a chuckle followed by him saying an ok. Great. I was stuck here 'til Flynn comes back with clothes.
I groaned as I waited. The bell had rung and I was late. Just as I was about to scream, the door opened.
"Flynn?"
I asked softly.
"Yeah, heads up!"
I looked up to see a bunch of clothes raining. Yes, raining. Flynn had freaking thrown it over the cubicle door. I picked up the clothes before they hit the floor. Lifting them up, I groaned.
"Flynn! Did you give me your sister's cheerleading clothes?!"
