Stars

Lights in the sky,

Fueled by ever burning Flames.

A shining nightlight of thousands,

There for all.

Wished upon frequently and asked,

There providing a helpful guide for all.

Guiding those whom lost their way,

Onto the path they seek.

Scoped out by many,

People searching for a star to call their own.

Looking for the glow,

For the stars all around.

Stars of thousands and billions,

A star in everyone that passes.

Giving that warm glow,

And impacting on all. ~}

The voices around me were hazy, and for a moment sounded foreign. I was in pain, I could feel that much, although I suppose it was to be expected since I quite literally had a hole drilled into me.
How I was alive I had no idea, but I'm still standing by the fact that I'm probably immortal.

"You deliberately went against my orders Lorelei." That was Dante.

"She knows too much!" Lorelei.

"I told you she was under my protection."

"She's still alive- just barely. But I'm not sure what you want me to do with that."

There was a moment of silence.

"That serum you were working on, did you perfect it?"

"It works." Lorelei sounded confused and hesitant, "but there are some side effects."

"Use it on her."

"But Dante I-"

"No excuses Lorelei. Use it."

I heard Dr. Tsing sigh, and footsteps draw closer to me. The sound of draws opening and then closing, and that feeling of 'someone is totally hovering over me right now and that makes me very uncomfortable' before I felt a slight pain then pressure in my neck and a surge of liquid injected into my bloodstream.
My eyes flew open as I attempted to struggle against whatever the hell was going on, but I was still as restrained as I was last time I was awake. It didn't take long for me to feel drained and for my eyes to flutter shut again, not before being able to mutter, "you're all dicks."

****

The first sound I heard was the slow beep of machinery from next to me. I allowed myself a few moments to listen to it, and to locate any other noises but there were none. I leveled out my breathing before allowing myself to open my eyes and sit up, I was in a room I didn't recognize as part of the ARK at all, where was I?

There was a line of beds, including mine which was situated right at the end, two large doors right nearby and lines and lines of medical equipment which again, didn't look like part of the supplies that I knew to belong to the medical facility of the ARK.

I started immediately panicking, yanking the bed sheets off of my body and standing up, only to waver and have to sit back down again. The doors to the room opened and two people walked in, a man and a woman.

The man was considerably older than the woman, with white hair and a gentle smile compared to the woman's dark hair and passive expression.

"Rae." The man greeted.

"My name's Raquelle." I responded automatically, staring at the man is confusion. "The only person who calls me Rae is my dad." I thought about it for a moment, "where is dad? Where am I?"

The man gave the woman a side glance, to which she smiled at him tight lipped smile. "I told you. Side effects."

"She remembers nothing?"

"It appears not, that could be useful."

The conversation was more confusing than it was helpful.

"Excuse me but who are you and what is going on?" I asked politely.

I noticed the look of surprise on both of their faces at my questions, before the man answered. "Excuse me, of course you must be very confused. My name is Dante Wallace, this is Doctor Lorelei Tsing. You're on Earth, in a place called Mt. Weather."

I stared at him blankly, "I'm what now?"

"I know you must be very confused, allow me to explain everything to you. You and some others were sent down here, you landed some miles away from here and faced an attack against some terrible people known as the Grounders, we saved you and brought you here, to our home so we can live in peace."

My head hurt.

The woman- Lorelei, put her hand on Dante's shoulder. "You're overwhelming her."

Dante took in a small breath, "let me start from the beginning... ."

It was a long and complicated story that took me a while to comprehend, but I understood eventually.

My name was Raquelle Evans, and I was now a part of the family of Mt. Weather.

Dante and Lorelei were absolute angels to me, they explained that when the pain killers wore off I'd have a pain in my side, from an attack by the Grounders but I was welcome to rest in the medical unit as long as I needed and then they'd escort me back to the private room I'd apparently been staying in.

The last thing I remembered was falling asleep on the ARK, my father studying some sort of documents. From what I'd been told, that would have been years ago, I wasn't entirely sure how exactly to deal with that, but pre-memory loss me was apparently fine. They'd told me they couldn't be sure if I'd regain my memories, and asked me multiple times if I remembered anything whatsoever.

Nothing.

I wasn't sure how to feel about the situation, but why wouldn't I trust them? They'd been nothing but honest about everything. I was confused as to why no one had visited me, from what I'd been told, the people I was sent down to Earth with were at Mt. Weather too, and I assumed they knew I wasn't well and fine and hanging out with them, so why had no one come to see me?
Was I disliked? Did I dislike them? Was I some sort of outcast?

Despite not knowing or remembering any of these people, I felt strangely bitter toward them. Perhaps I was someone unimportant, not useful or talented and just remained unnoticed and to the side.

Yes, I decided, they chose to forget and ignore me, that must be it. In which case they must be dishonest, and unsympathetic people, what was it Dante had said? That they were all criminals, but I was special?
In that case why hadn't they all been locked up?
Who wanted a bunch of thugs roaming around their home?

I glanced at the door in paranoia, if a bunch of criminals were just outside there and I wasn't there friend, what was to stop them from barging in and trying to kill me? Maybe they put me in here in the first place and that was what Dante wasn't telling me.

I felt tired. And as I felt my eyes close and myself drifting off into sleep, I made a mental note to tell my President that something should be done about my... criminal companions.
