The full moon shone brightly in the clear sky. Not the best night for your "extracurricular" activities. None the less, you knew it had to be tonight or you may not have another chance to achieve your goal.
That goal was nothing less than steal the priceless sculpture from the Museum of Modern Art. Tomorrow, this was to be moved across the country, which would make it quite difficult to obtain.
You slipped on your black sweater and hockey mask before double checking your canvas bag for all your supplies. Rope, map, the stolen key card and more. It was all there as it had been the last dozen times you had checked. This was to be your biggest theft yet and you wanted to make sure you didn't miss the smallest of details.
You poured over the detailed map once more before gently rolling it up and setting it back in your duffle. With your gear in tow, you slipped out of your house, quietly closing the door behind you.
~oOo~
With your shortcuts through the city, it didn't take you long to reach the museum. You hid in the shadowed alley, scouring the wall for the duct that was to grant you entrance. Spotting the metal frame, your lips curved into a cat like grin.
You pulled yourself up onto the metal dumpster, careful to avoid the sharp corners and maintaining silence. Despite your best efforts, the lid clanged with every step. Sweat trickled down your spine and you kept checking the end of the alley for any signs of life. None came.
The vent cover was a simple matter of removing and you took one last glance at the street before crawling inside and pulling the metal closed behind you.
The darkness made it difficult to see but luckily, you had memorized the route from the map. The steel walls seemed to close in on you but you crawled onward. Nothing was going to stop you from getting to your goal.
~oOo~
Your feet pounded the ground as you sprinted. The sirens blaring outside the walls. Apparently, the museum had updated their security since you had received your information and you had tripped a silent alarm somewhere along the way.
Pulling out your gun as you ran, you prepared for an assault. There was no way you were going down without a fight. The large halls seemed like a maze and you lost all sense of direction, simply running until you could find a way out.
Something zipped towards you and stuck to your hand that held the gun. It jolted you to a stop and the weapon was thrown from your reach, landing several meters away by a large portrait. More of the sticky rope quickly wrapped around your torso and lifted you off the ground. You struggled to break free but froze when you saw who had done this to you, Spider man.
A groan escaped your lips. He was the new hero around and had been forgotten from your plans. Your mind racing, an idea came to mind. You were going to distract him.
"I didn't know you were into tying up your lovers. Kinky." You gave him your best flirty smile. He, on the other hand flipped out.
"We are not lovers. I've never even met you before now! I'm simply stopping you before you can do any harm."
"Harm to you? And how do I know if we've met, you won't take off that mask of yours."
"No, harm to others. The police will be here soon to take care of you." He went to leave but you called after him.
"But what if I want you to take care of me. I know you like seeing me tied up." He sighed and walked quickly away. "Please don't leave me, I'm afraid of the dark. I only tried to steal to help my mother." He wouldn't have known If that last statement was truth or not but his footsteps stopped so you continued. "She was shot in a grocery store during a robbery and we don't have enough money to pay the hospital fees."
"I wish I could help but there are better ways to make money than stealing."
"I tried to get a job and when that failed, I tried begging for money. No one was willing to help so I had to take matters into my own hands. I can't let her die." You let a tear trickle down your face just as he turned back.
The webbed mask hid his face from view but you could tell he held sympathy. "Please let me go this one time."
He contemplated for several minutes and you begged again for his help. Your eyes widened as he turned his back and quickly raced away from you.
"Wait! Come back!"
~oOo~
The cool breeze licked your cheeks. Above you, stars lit the sky. At least some did, the rest were hidden from view by the cities lights. You stood on an empty roof, the sound of sirens echoed from the streets far below.
After leaving you, Spiderman had returned and made you a deal. He would let you go to take care of your mother but you couldn't take the sculpture. The biggest condition had been that you needed to change your ways. No more stealing or he would make sure that you didn't see the light of day for a long time.
You quickly agreed and he untangled you from the web before he helped you dodge the cops. Together, you burst out the back door and your feet pounded the sidewalk. You looked back to see that he had stopped by the metal door.
"I'll distract them. Next time I see you, let's hope it's under better circumstances." Your lips curved into a grin as he spoke.
"So you admit that there will be a next time. Maybe you do like me after all." You teased. His change in heart was enough to make you like him. The sudden rush of footsteps inside took your smile.
"Get out of here before they catch you." He saw your hesitation and shouted at you again. "Go!" That was enough to send you racing down the street and eventually getting to where you now stood, on a rooftop several blocks away, thinking about the man who had let you go.
You may have been flirting simply to distract him, but now your heart beat rapidly at the thought of him. You needed to find him again and discover who he really was. With the sounds of the sirens drawing closer again, you had to push these thoughts to the back of your mind. For now, you needed to run before you were discovered.
