I'm finally in my second semester finishing up my last year in high school and I'm dying from being in this class. I seriously hate being in A.P. Literature. I thought it would be fun, but nope. Seriously bored out of my mind.
I mean I've had boring classes in my past but not as boring as this one.
Luckily my best friend Carla is right next to me to entertain me through Romeo and Juliet. I read it before in my freshmen year before I transferred to this school.
I mean what kind of person is willing to give up everything for the love of their life. Let alone ring in their teens. Come on now these are kids who are supposedly falling in love at 16. They don't even know what love is. Let alone being 16 and in love.
I look at Carla making a gun with my head and pointing it to my head. Then "shooting myself" making my head hit the book. She laughs and I laugh with her.
"Luna" Mr. Reynolds calls me catching me off guard "Do you think it's right that Romeo went to the party at the Capulet's? Even though the two families don't get along."
I pick my head up. "Um." Is all I say. "Well. Um. Well."
At this point everyone is looking at me. Waiting for me to answer the question. Mr. Reynolds is getting impatient. And then the devil starts speaking.
"Aww what's wrong. Cats got your tongue?" Justine says. She then looks over to her best friend Abby and says to her "Told you the weak girl is dumb." Then they laugh. Mr Reynolds doesn't comment on her insult on me.
"Well Luna." He says "I'm waiting."
Then I decide to pull myself together and start to give my response. "Well I think..." Then there's a knock on the door. Save by the bell or in this case knock I thought.
Mr. Reynolds goes towards the door and opens it. And when he does there's this boy. He gives Mr. Reynolds a schedule, his schedule.
"Your seat is back there."Mr. Reynolds points a desk in the back corner and tells him
He walks across the room his head down as he's making his way to his desk. He's cute and looks strong. I wonder what he's trying to hide? Maybe weed? Or cocaine? Probably a murderer?
Really a murderer. Really Luna I thought to myself.
The boy finally reaches his seat. And sets his bag down beside him.
Mr. Reynolds then looks at the class. "Lets welcome our new student Mr. Ciro Mendez." He looks at the new kid "Mr. Mendez I expect you to bring your book to class every day. As I can tell you have your book with you yes?" The new kid nods. "Well then open to page 429. Luna was about to answer my question."
He then looks at me. "Luna do you think that is was okay for Romeo to crash the Capulets party?"
By now I know how to answer the question. Since I know what happens next.
"Well yes and no." I explain " no because It wasn't okay that Romeo crashed the party without an invitation thus making it a risk for starting a conflict between the two families.
"On the other hand if he had not gone to the party thus wouldn't have met Juliet and she could've ended up in a marriage she didn't want in the first place.
"But I mean they both killed themselves because they..." I put up air quotations with my fingers "love each other."
"So would you say without Romeo going to the party Juliet would be miserable? Even if they didn't meet at the party?" Mr. Reynolds asked.
"Well how would you feel ,Mr. Reynolds, if you had to be with someone you don't want to be with and you have no choice because it is best for your family?" I look at Justine looking deep into her eyes and say as she looks at me "See I'm not just a dumb weak girl." She just turns her head back looking away from me.
Mr. Reynolds claps and says enthusiastically "Well done Ms. Garcia. See I knew you knew the answer to my question. Don't doubt yourself."
Then another knock "Well dang. Another student I guess." He says.
I look at Carla and took a deep sigh. Existed from me giving the answer. We both laughed. Carla leans in towards me "Well looks like you got the attention of the new kid. He looked at you the whole time."
I look back at him. I saw that he was looking at me this whole time. But once I made eye contact with him he put his head down.
When I look back Mr. Reynolds is standing right by me. With a paper in his hand reaching it out towards me. "Looks like your going home early." He says.
I grab the paper from his hand. And grab all my things. I know I'm not going home, but that's what every one else thinks.
"What's the real reason your leaving class early Ms. Garcia?" Mr Reynolds ask.
"A doctors appointment." I say.
"Well I expect you to finish the rest of the act at your doctors appointment then, since there will be a quiz tomorrow."
"Ok. Bye Mr. Reynolds."
I then leave his class and am on my way to my "Doctor's appointment." Knowing that this will be, once again, the longest appointment of my life.
