Just Keep Swimming

Chapter 17

•Avery Pov•

     "We will meet you guys there," Brandon says walking over to his car with "Jenny".

    (A/N: if you didn't read the last chapter, Jenny is actually Kennedy but she doesn't want Brandon or anyone else to know. But Avery already knows it's her.)

     "Okay see you there," Jackson says back.

     We get into the car. I growl under my breath. Cameron holds my hand and smiles. Which makes me feel a little better. I turn on the radio and stop thinking about what kind of disasters might happen.

      We walk into the gymnasium and my eyes widen. They whole room is the dance floor and they opened the sliding wall. So the cafeteria and gym are one room. The cafeteria is where the tables are.
     We walk in and Katie grabs me and squeals. I join her and start jumping. Jackson and Cameron are looking around amazed. I laugh and hug Cameron. We walk over into the cafeteria, with Katie and Jackson at our side. We all sit at a table together. With two other seats empty. For Brandon and his witchy date.
We sit down, waiting for them to arrive. When they do, I walk over to the food and drinks. Everyone stays and chats at the table. Or so I thought.
I grab coke cola for Cameron and Sprite for me. I keep it from falling, successfully and then go back for some snacks. I grab a plate and fill it with cookies, cupcakes, and chocolate. I also wanted to look for something healthy because I don't really eat junk that much.
I find strawberries next to this big, beautiful chocolate fountain. Hey, I said I wanted healthy, strawberries are healthy you know. I grab about 20 strawberries in and grab a cup of chocolate. I don't know why I did just dunk the strawberries under the fountain, but at least I have a lot of chocolate now!
The place is even more crowded than before. I couldn't go by the fastest way to my table with out getting bumped so I took the most complicated path, just so I didn't drop any of the snacks.
I get close to the table and out of no where some jerk shoves me out of the way. All the food goes flying. None of its on me. I didn't see who it was. Probably Kennedy, but she was at my table. Weird, maybe they didn't notice me. I am a petite girl.
I make my way back to the snacks and make my plate again. This time I see Kennedy coming my way. I walk a different way, but she catches up. Instead of being rude, she starts to talk to me.

"Hey," she says running after me," Avery wait!"
"Hi Jenny," I say rolling my eyes," what do you want."
"I wanted to tell you something," she replies," I'm not really Jenny. I'm-"
"Kennedy," I interrupt," yeah I know."
"How?!"
"We were 'friends' for 8 years. I think I know how you act. Oh and that's the name you always used when we played games."
"You remember that?"
"Yeah, you were the only person I hung out with, all my childhood memories have you in it. Especially the last day of middle school."

She becomes stunned for a moment and try's to befriend me.

"I'm really sorry," she comments," my head was always thinking about being popular and I thought my reputation would be ruined if... Well you know."
"I'm sorry I had those feelings," I say," but that doesn't mean you have to push me aside and announce it to the whole school."
"Hey," she responds," you weren't 100% about it. And I see you have finally made a choice ok you're feelings."
"My feelings are the same as they were back then," I scowl.
"Then why is HE in the picture?"
"Because I like him."
"But I thought you told me-"

Katie walks over and the conversation goes silent, but she starts another one up.

"Hey girls," she says," want to go dance!"
"Yea," Kennedy says," hold on can I get some snacks first."
"Yep," she replies," I'll be waiting at the table."

She scampers away and we walk over to the snacks. We start talking about prom king and queen.

"So," she says grabbing a strawberry," do you know who was nominated for queen?"
"Yea," I say," you, Hannah, Katie, some other girl, and me."
"It's so hard to win," she tells me," you're makeup, dress, and well everything has to be perfect. One stain on a dress could ruin the whole night."
"I know that's why I was trying not to fall, that didn't work so well."
"Oh yeah I saw you take a digger," she responds," that's why I was running after you, I wanted to know if you were okay."
"Oh well, I'm fine."
"That's good," she says smiling," except you're not winning prom queen!"
"What are you talking-"

She interrupted me and threw chocolate at my dress. Her smile turns evil and she laughs. She tells me, she wasn't really sorry and I was fool to believe her. I speed walk away and she screams freak in my direction. I run into the restroom and sit on the floor, crying.

•Katie Pov•

"YOU FREAK!" Is screamed. The room goes silent and a girl runs out of the cafeteria, drenched in chocolate. All I can see is what color her hair is, but finally I got a glimpse of her dress and I knew it was Avery.

"I'm gonna be right back," I tell Jackson," I need to go to the bathroom."

I walk in the restroom and knock on the wall. Avery looks up at me. And cries. Her dress has chocolate covering the whole front of the dress and her left check and nose are covered too. I sit down next to her and hug her.
She crus and tells what happened. That Jenny is actually Kennedy and she did this to her. I grabbed a bunch of paper towels and gave them to her to wipe as much of the chocolate off, but we both knew it was going to stain.
I run out of the restroom and to the drinks. I grab a Diet Coke and head to the table. There I see Kennedy standing there talking to the boys and laughing. I tap her shoulder. She turns around and I throw the drink into her face. She gasp.

"What was that for!," she whines.
"I don't know who you think you are, but if you're gonna make Avery's life a living hell, then I'm making your life one too!"
"What the heck is going on," Brandon shouts," why are you being so rude to her? She has done nothing wrong!"
"NOTHING WRONG?!," I yell back," I don't know how she fooled us, but... THAT'S KENNEDY!"

The guys gasp and look at her in disbelief. Cameron stands up and runs out of the cafeteria. I follow behind him.

•Kennedy Pov•

Katie and Cameron leave and go somewhere out the door. I knew I would have to explain to both Jackson and Brandon. The only thing is do I lie or tell the truth. They stare at me waiting for me to speak.

"Okay so I accidentally spilt chocolate on her and then I said you look like a freak as a joke, but I guess she took it the wrong way," I lie.
"That wasn't a spill that was," Jackson says," that is craziness!"
"I can't believe you did that," Brandon says," get away from this table."
"But-"
"I SAID GO!," he yells.

•Cameron's Pov•

We run into the restroom. Thankfully no other girls were in there. I pick Avery up and sit her down on the sink. I hug her tightly. She cries on my shoulder.

"It's okay," I says," I'm here."
"Is she gone," Avery whimpers.
"I don't know," I reply," Katie can you go check?"

She nods and leaves the room. Avery and I are alone in the restroom. She releases from the hug and wipes her face. Which smudges her makeup.

"Awe," she whines.
"What?"
"I got chocolate on you," she cries," I'm sorry!"
"That doesn't bother me," I reply.

She gets down from the sink and looks in the mirror and gets startled.

"GaHH!!," she yells," I look like a hot mess.

We laugh.

"Want to go home?," I ask.
"Really?," she asks.
"Mhm."
"Okay let's go."

We tell Katie and Jackson and leave the school and go to my house...
