"What do you guys have after lunch?" Marley asks. My friends and I have met up at the beginning of lunch and are now sitting at one of the tables in the general commons area.
"Gym and English." Britt replies to her question. Like a ripple effect we all answer after her. Rine has English and Math, Tori has French and Science, Karley has Math and English with Britt, and Felicia has Dance and Geography.
"What about you Mira?" I come back to earth from my day dreams and look at Marley who asked the question.
"Oh, umm," I pull my schedule from under my brown paper lunch bag and read from it. "Geography and Religion." I tell her folding up my schedule again. "Religion? With who?" She asks getting excited. I pull out my schedule again and read the name. "Mr. Laide." I tell her and she squeals with excitement in her weird and usual way. How did I become friends with her again? "Same class!" She squeals out and I smiled but my mind is somewhere else.
"Are you thinking of your plan again?" Britt asks. I chuckled, but she is right.
"Maybe." I tell her and she rolls her eyes.
"Tell us your plan again Mira?" Karley asks/demands full of fake curiosity. Well, I am always up for talking about my plan.
"Ugh, Mira you are never going to get high school to go your way." Britt reminds me. I reply to her with the death stare.
"It's not to 'get my way'" I tel her, "It's to make highschool the best experience I ever encounter." I state matter of factly,
"Okay, whatever." Britt says going back to her lunch. Whatever, Britt. So many people have a bad high school experience and I am not going to be one of those people.
"All academic classes in grade nine and ten with a math and science tutor since those are my hardest subjects, then biology in grade eleven and after that I am done with Science for my senior year. Drop from Academic, to Neutral math in grade eleven so I won't need a tutor. Drop Math all together in grade 12 since we only need 3 math credits and by then I can become a tutor and tutor younger students in English or French. I want a reliable boyfriend in grade 11 and then we will go to prom in grade 12. I will meet as many people as I can this year and get to know them more closely next year to fulfill my dream of becoming student council president. By the time I am seventeen and in grade 12 I can ditch the bus and start driving to school if my parents let me use the car. Then my overall goal is to be voted Social Butterfly our senior year by keeping close relations with our classmates and win the campaign for class valedictorian."
I finish telling them my plan really fast and give them a smile as this really hot guy walks by us.
"And date him." I add in watching him walk away. My friends giggle and we watch hot guy walk into the art room.
"Damn Mira, you actually have all your high school years planned out, goals and all." Karley says giving me a wink.
"I just dont want to have a horrible high school experience like so many others before us had." I say looking down at the table and seeing all the signatures of past graduates. An unofficial tradition. My friends nod sadly understanding. We are quiet for a moment as we hang our heads and looked upon the many names.
"So, have any of your teachers said anything about that around the globe thing?" Britt asks breaking the silence.
"What around the globe thing?" Marley's confused expression speaks for all of us.
"Yeah Britt, what are you talking about?" Many of us chimed in with the same question. What is Britt talking about now? She is always interested in things she will never follow though with.
"You know, on the morning announcments. Taking the Spartan community around the globe..."
"Oh, right. Why, are you interested in going around the world?" I ask jokingly but wanting to hear her answer.
"Maybe I am." she says. "What you can't see me in Paris or Brazil?"
"Who says Brazil is an option?" I ask.
"Umm it's global. That's around the world you know." She looks at me like I'm the blond.
"Alright Brittney, Whatever you say." I tell her as the lunch bell rings. Well that was a quick lunch.
"Okay, guys cut it out. It's time to go find our next class." Marley gets up from her chair and grabs her garbage. We all follow her actions.
"Okay, lets go upstairs locker neighbour." I nudge Britt and walk to the stairway with her. High school is being good to me so far.
