15// A Quick Battle

Marinette's POV

It was time. The moment we had all been waiting for. the moment Chat and I have been preparing for our whole lives, and the new superheroes have only had a day. I glanced away from the Agreste mansion to see what expressions they held on their faces. Fear? Uneasiness? Instead, I saw a determined look on the new heroes and that gave me a boost of confidence. I looked to my left and that confidence deflated, my partner stood like he was unsure of himself. I watched quitely as his hand clenched and unclenched his staff. I poked his shoulder and jumped back as he practically launced himself 3 feet in the air.

"Are you okay?" I asked uncertainly.

Chat Noir glanced at me from the corner of his eyes. I remembered what happened the last time he was here, and immediately regretted forgetting the resson we were at Master Fu's in the first place. Chat was injured, and I couldn't do anything to help him. Sure I saved him and sure he's mostly healed, but the damage is done.

"I'm fine, M'lady," he tried to assure me. Before I could beat myself up more, however, Volpina spoke.

"So..... this is the place?" I directed my attention back to the building where Hawkmoth resides.

"Yep." I responded, putting emphasis on the 'p'.

"Poor Adrien!" Queen Bee gasped, "And Mr.Agreste too. Do you think they're alright?" I can't believe I forgot about them! What if he hurt Adrien, or worse??? What if Adrien's dead?????? No. I refuse to believe thats the case.

Out of the corner of my eye, Chat visibly stiffened and replied with a dark tone, "I'm sure they're just fine."

I wasn't the only one to notice, however. We all turned to face Chat Noir who didn't even notice our stares until a few seconds past. He cleared his throat and put on a smile that I could immediately tell was forced. "I mean, they probably got away." ,

I decided to let the issue go, for now, and turned to face my remaining team. The determined looks were still on their faces, but I could see something wasn't right. They looked hesitant, as if they were unsure of themselves. They were feeling how I felt. I need to put on a brave face, I'm Ladybug for God's sake, but I'm scared . This is Hawkmoth, the man who's been terrorizing Paris for a while. He is the reason for every akuma. I need to be fearless, for my team, so we can succeed, but I'm. so. scared. What if something goes wrong? What if Chat gets injured again? What if they get injured? What if something terrible happens and I can't fix it?

What if I can't save everyone? So many, what ifs.

But I put on a brave face, like I always do, and prepared for a pep talk.

"OK, look," I started, "I can't speak for what might or what might not happen . This is your first day and I wish we had more time to prepare ourselves, as a team. But, from what I've seen so far, Im glad you're here. You guys are capable of yourselves, and you will be what Paris is proud to call their heroes. And yes, I know your scared, so am I, and so is Chat. But we need to face our fears every once in a while.

"While we are in there, I will have your backs. And I hope you will have mine. This is dangerous and a lot to ask of you, and I'm sorry, I'm really sorry, and-" I'm rambling. I knew i was rambling. But what could I say to make them sure of themselves, what could i do to ease the fear?

"What she means is," Chat interrupted, and I silently thanked him, "You guys can do this. Believe in yourselves."

Volpina and Queen Bee both nodded and a fire ignited in their eyes. Great. Now that is what i was looking for. Maybe he shoukd do the pep talks from now on.

"Ready when you are," Queen Bee spoke.

I faced the door, and took a deep breath, and let it slowly escape my lings. My hand slowly reached for the silver doorknob. As soon as they connected, my fingers tightened. I took one more deep breath, and opened the door.
