Chapter One
It's been ten years since I was cursed. Ten years I've spent hidden in the forest only coming out to gather food for the cabin. The cabin that Gavin had given me when he died.
~Flashback~
The morning after my second change I went back to the cabin to find a stranger inside. I stood in the doorway as I watched the man snoop around the living room like he was looking for something; he then turned around and saw me in the doorway.
He looked early twenties. Short black hair that was spiked up, deep dark eyes that narrowed when he saw me. He was tall when he stood up, muscled and had broad shoulders. He slowly approached me wearily. I scurried back and out the door.
"So, you're my new racoon then," his voice was deep and stern.
"I'm sorry," I quietly replied. "No one was here yesterday, I didn't know where else to go."
"Go home," was all he said as he started to close the door.
"But I don't have a home!" I called. My mother had always told me not to talk to strangers yet, something about this man felt safe.
"Look kid, I've got my own problems," he growled at me. "Go find someone else to bug." With that he closed the door.
I stood there staring at the door, praying quietly he would open the door again. A gust of wind breezed past me, reminding me I was still naked. I sat against the wall, pulling my knees to my chest and resting my head against my knees.
I don't know how long I sat there before the front door opened again, I watched the man as he stepped out without looking at me. He didn't know I was there, until I sneezed then jumped and faced me.
"What are you still doing here, kid? I told you to go home!" he yelled at me.
I buried my head into my knees again and mumbled, "I don't have a home."
"What?" he asked again.
"I don't have a home!" I yelled at him.
We stared at each other silently. When I shivered again he went inside and came out again with similar clothes that I wore yesterday.
"Put these on," he said throwing the clothes at me, then returning back inside.
I quickly stood up and pulled the clothes on. The front door was still open so I stepped back into the doorway and watched him moving around in the kitchen.
"Come in and close the door," he said, filling the kettle up.
I did as he told me to, still standing in the doorway. I watched as he got two mugs out of a cupboard, he froze and turned to look at me.
"Would you like some hot chocolate?" he asked me.
I nodded.
After a few minutes of silence he said, "You can go sit down."
I walked into the living and sat down on the sofa. I looked over to the same window I watched the sunset out of yesterday, when I saw a pile of clothes on the floor. My eyes widened when I noticed they were the same clothes I had worn yesterday.
