Hailey’s P.O.V
Have you ever got that feeling when you hear or read something shocking and it takes a moment to actually register it and then your mind goes blank and then the harsh reality sets in?
That’s what I was feeling right now.
I opened my mouth to say something and then closed it again. I must be looking like a fish. I tried to speak again, “I-Wha-Uh…Umm…Sorry?” That, people, was my reply. And the award for the lamest reply in the world goes to…..wait for it….Hailey Chambers. Logan looked as if he was going to die of holding back his laughter and honestly speaking I couldn’t blame him.
“Wow! What kind of reply was that?” he asked, shaking his head. “Well, so from your extra-ordinary reaction, I am guessing that you have never been to a nightclub,” he said, stating the obvious.
I looked down at my feet as if it was the most fascinating object in the world. You are beautiful, my feet! And then I guess Karma was on my side because as soon I was opening my mouth to say something, our bus came. Saved by the b- bus!
So, we got onto our bus and there were fewer seats so Logan ended up sitting behind me with an elderly man and I was sitting with a middle-age woman. Just as I was thinking that Logan must have forgotten about the whole ‘nightclub’ thing, I felt someone tap on my shoulder and that someone was Logan, of course. It wasn't Tom Cruise or Robert Downey Jr. I sighed internally. Karma…I take back my words of you being on my side. I turned back to look at his dark green-gray eyes.
“So, you haven’t been to a nightclub. No point denying that.” he said. I sighed dejectedly.
“Well, yeah. You see, I had other important things to do than ‘partying’ okay?”
He looked unimpressed. “Alright then, Miss.I-had-other-important-things-than-partying. It’s time to change your priorities.” he declared.
“What do you mean?” I asked, confused.
“What I mean is this is the time to go out and have a social life and party and mingle with other people. You are a teenager, remember? That’s what we all teenagers do!” he explained. I was unimpressed now. “Well, I’m not like the other teenagers,” I said, indignantly. Did he just ask me to go out and have a social life and party or whatever? Really? That’s even scarier than walking through an alleyway and spotting a dementor gliding towards you and then realizing that you are not a wizard! For me, it is damn scary.
“Come on, Hailey,” he continued, “Be a sport! See, let’s go to that nightclub tomorrow. You and me. Just for once. Trust me, you will understand the definition of fun!” he said, looking eager.
Just a friendly reminder here that we were having this conversation in a bus. Full of people. A silent bus with only us talking. Logan’s loud voice wasn’t helping either. Amazing, right?! Note the sarcasm.
“What? Tomorrow? Are you freaking out of your mind? What- What about Karla? What about me? I- I can’t. Logan, No!!” I freaked out.
“Oh god, Hailey. You worry a lot. Okay, so your main concern is Karla, right? You destroying your perfect ‘good girl’ image?” he smirked, “It’s fine. See, I’ve got this amazing plan. Karla will not know anything about this and YOU don’t have to worry at all. You’ll be with me. I’ve done this a lot of times” he said, reassuring me. I still wasn’t convinced. I started protesting but he cut me off.
“Hailey, your holidays are going on. YOU are a teenager and teenagers have fun. You need to break some rules at some point in your life. Live a little, Hailey. Do you want to grow old and while looking back on your whole life, feel that you haven’t done some amazing stuff when you had the chance? Do you want to live a life full of regrets?” he asked, looking serious.
