Hailey's P.O.V
My head was spinning as the realization hit me. Oh.
Oh.
I wanted to bombard Logan with thousands of question but decided to give him space to explain it to me in him own pace.
Logan’s head hung low and the sun was setting which casted a shadow on his face.
“I was fifteen when I came to know about my mom’s child. I was sitting in my room playing with my action figures when I heard my parents talking in the living room. They were trying to figure it all out and somehow save their marriage. I overheard the whole conversation. After she gave birth to me, my dad had gone to Germany for an official tour and my mom, well, she decided to have a girls’ night out and she met this guy who completely understood her and shit and well, one thing led to another and BAM! The child was born. The father of the child was also married and the couple was childless so he decided to keep the baby,” he said, sighing.
“Obviously at first I was ashamed of my mom and I couldn’t even make eye contact with her. I had to go for therapy just like you.” He said, looking at me. My heart warmed. So, I was not alone. I wanted to hug him right now and never let him go.
“Then one day my mom decided to bring the baby home. I got really angry. I mean, who does that right? So, one fine day I rang the doorbell of my house and there she is. In my mom’s arm. Her name was Felicity. My heart melted as soon as I set eyes on her,” he said, smiling sadly. I smiled along with him.
“My anger flew out the window as I held her and she started laughing when I said hi. I had an amazing time playing with her. My mom started crying when I was feeding her. Sadly, she had to go back home after a while. I got mom to tell me where she was living. So, every alternate day, after school, I used to go to her house and spend some time with her. I used to bring her so many gifts. Her parents kinda liked me so there weren’t any awkward moments. After one year, they moved places and my meetings with Felicity completely stopped.” There was so much compassion and love in his eyes and voice that for one moment I was unsure whether this was the Logan I had met weeks before.
When I had seen him the first time, he looked confident, kind of arrogant and strong but now he looked vulnerable. My eyes burned and tears fell from her eyes. Logan looked up at that precise moment and rubbed the tear off her cheek. Without thinking, I sat up on my knees and hugged him with all my might. Logan froze at first and then soon enough he eased out and returned her hug with equal enthusiasm. We were in this position for a long time. I felt safe and alive in his arms. None of us wanted to pull away. When we finally did (reluctantly), Logan sighed.
“Wow, that actually made me feel better.” He said. I smiled.
“Some moments can only be cured with a big squishy grandma hug. Well, in this case it was not really a grandma hug, though.” I said, sheepishly. Logan laughed at that.
“This hug can cure cancer,” he said, gazing at me. “Remind me to be sad all the time so that I can get that hug every day.” He winked at me.
“We’ll see about that,” I replied.
“Thank you, Hailey for listening to me,” he said, seriously.
“Anytime, Logan. After all, even you patiently heard me out in the morning. So, thank you.” I said, smiling.
We sat there, again, gazing at each other in silence, getting lost in the moment. No earthquake can make me look away from him.
But as a matter of fact, rain can. It suddenly started raining and we had to look away from each other and pack everything up and rush home.
