This chapter has been edited and finalized.
I can feel the seasons changing in my bones, some long-buried instinct that arises as the gentle autumn rain turns to snow, and again as the thaws come to announce the coming of spring with the loosening of rivers under their sheets of ice. The bears come out of hibernation, and hunt ceaselessly; in a way, the bitter storms of deep winters, with their avalanches and lean mountain cats, are safer for me than the time of plenty. Only once have I encountered a grizzly as she feasted on the carcass of a fox with her two cubs. There is a scar down my arm to remind me of that.
This winter brings change, a thing that scares me, sets my heart racing. Change is a concept that does not occur here in these peaks. The mountains have had their ways for generations, for many, many more years than what I've seen in my time here. Disrupting the habits of these pillars of stone is like reversing the flow of water – unthinkable, unnatural, and unheard of.
It is difficult, now, to find berries, and I cannot let my paintings fade. The book has; its paper has been cracked and yellowed by the alternating periods of dry and humid air. I started cave artistry in hopes that the rock will not be destroyed so easily. So far, my hope has not disappointed.
My legs have become stiff from sitting so long by the fire, and I should not be so still when Nemur arrives. He is loyal to me, a good companion, but wrong movements to his feral mind will indicate a threat, and I must not let that happen. We land on a perilous balance that I have toiled to achieve and maintain.
He is due to arrive soon, so I will wait for him.
I always have.

ANNNNNYYY guesses? Any guesses? Please. Please. Come on. You're killing me. Nobody really has ANY guess as to who this mystery character is? I even gave you people some clues!
Well. If you don't get it now, you will in a lot of chapters (very reassuring, I know) but trust me, you'll be kicking yourself.
Comment! Vote! It's Snowfall, and peace out!
