Chapter 5

Diana

She turned the lights on in Henry's room.

"Wake up you fat pig" Diana said bitterly. With a few moans and growls, her assistant slowly woke up, staring around him in confusion, before realising that he was half naked and needed to cover himself. When the sheets were nicely tucked in, covering his entirely body, Henry looked at the time,

"It's almost three in the morning." He said confused.

"I know, get up" Diana said approaching his bed and ripping the sheets off, careless of his nudity.

Henry shot out of bed and hurried to put clothes on, not yet asking any questions about what she was doing at his house so early in the morning.

Once he was dressed, the two of them exited the room and headed downstairs, where Diana allowed herself to finally reveal the meaning of her presence.

"I made arrangements with one of the generals of the army base." She told him. "We have until dawn to experiment on the creature as much as we desire. If she dies, then so be it."

"Do, do you think that's a good idea?" Henry asked, struggling to find his rain coat.

"Maybe yes, maybe no; only time will tell. Come, we don't have much time." She turned around and walked out of her assistant's house.

Waiting for her outside was the general she had made arrangements with, with his presence they would be allowed to enter and exit the base as they pleased.

Diana sat in front of the jeep and let the army man drive as Henry sat in the back, already scribbling thoughts on a notepad. She did not doubt for a second what they were about to do; it could result in great discoveries for science and all human kind. If this thing really was a mermaid, it suggests the possibility of it acting and thinking just like humans. If only Diana could find a way to communicate with her, with it. What if there are others? What if they are searching for her? Surely there are more, maybe they present a threat to the entire human race? Yes, Diana was certain that she was doing the world a favour by uncovering the most information possible about this beast; it could prepare them for future endeavours.

The jeep turned left onto a dirt road and after driving along for another five minutes they found their way to the boat dock, where they were greeted by another army man that waited with motor boat in order to take them to the army base. Once finally arrived, Diana was shocked by how few people were present; but she knew all too well that by dawn everyone would be awake and back into action...she needed to act fast.

"How would you like to precede doctor?" The general asked her. "Would you like her sedated?"

"No" Diana answered. "Keep her awake and bring her to my lab, make sure she's tied up."
