Chapter Seven - Smell Of Death

*Lucia's P.O.V*

"Pleeeeeeeease! Pretty please! Just sing this song for me, and then I'll let you go to training!"
"I'm going to kick your ass if you don't shut up and leave me alone god dammit!" I growled.
Alabaster pouted so he resembled a puppy. A very adorable puppy. "Please?"
I looked away and glared at the wall.
All morning Freckles has been trying to make me sing a song called, 'partners in crime' by Set It Off. Apparently he wants to to sing it with me since the song is a duet. He really wants me to sing it.
Al moved his hips to the left, as I had tried to go under his arm to get past the door - of course, his body was in the freaking way. I have ten minutes to get to training..... "If I arrive late, I swear you'll regret it, Torrington." I glanced at his face and immediately regretted it. He looked..... so cute! Like a puppy who just wants a treat. I felt myself cave in. "Damn you, Freckles, damn you." He gave me a dorky smile and scrambled to his bed to retrieve his dark green iPod. I closed the door behind me and walked over to his bed and sat on it as he pulled up the song - the karaoke version. He sat criss-cross applesauce across from me on his bed and grinned. I tried to give him an annoyed look but I ended up smiling. The guitar started off and I waited for the right moment to start.
"You'll never take us alive," I began dragging the last word to stay on key and rhythm with the song.
"We swore that death will do us part," Alabaster's voice came out a little bit deeper that the original male singer, but he still made it work. "They'll call our crimes a work of art,"
"You'll never take us alive," Me.
"We'll live like spoiled royalty, lovers and partners," Al.
"Partners in crime!" Both of us sang at the same time. Surprisingly, both our voices fit together quite nicely. While we waited for the first verse to start he gave me a childish grin, and I couldn't help but let out a small laugh at how much he looked like small child right now.
        "Partners in crime." Al sang.
"This, the tale of reckless love, living a life of crime of the run," Al continued. "A brush to a gun, to paint these states green and red,
        "Everybody freeze,"
        "Nobody move," I sang.
"Put the money in the bag,"
        "Or we will shoot,"
"Empty out the vault, so me and my doll will be on our way,"
"Our paper faces flood the streets," I dragged the last word.
"And if the heat comes close enough to burn, then we'll play with fire 'cause,"
"You'll never take us alive," Me.
"We swore that death will do us part," Al. "They'll call our crimes a work of art,"
"You'll never take us alive," Me.
"We'll live like spoiled royalty, lovers and partners. Partners in crime," he smiled at me. "Partners in crime."
"Here we find our omnipotent outlaws fall behind the grind tonight," Al continued. "Left unaware that the lone store owner won't go down without a fight,"
"Where are we gonna go?" I smile grew on my face as my favorite part came. I love this part.
"He's got us pinned!" Alabaster smiled back at me.
        "Baby, I'm a little scared,"
        "Now, don't you quit,"
"He sounded the alarm, I hear the sirens closing in,"
"Our paper faces flood the streets. And if the heat comes close enough to burn, then we're buring this place to the ground, 'cause,"
        "You'll never take us alive,"
"We swore that death will do us part, they'll call our crimes a work of art,"
        "You'll never take us alive,"
"Well live like spoiled royalty, lovers and partners, partners in crime,"

"The skies are black with lead filled rain," I sang.
        "A morbid painting on display,"
"This is the night young love died,"
        "Buried at each other's side,"
        "You never took us alive,"
"We swore that death will do us part, so now we haunt you in the dark,"
         "You never took us alive,"
"We live as ghosts among these streets, lovers and partners, partners in crime," he raised his head. "partners in crime,
"Partners in crime." We finished together.
Alabaster grinned as he fell backwards on his bed. I couldn't help but let out a small laugh. He looked as cute as a small child. "I love that song, it reminds me of you and me. We're partners in crime, and all those gods who look down at us and our mothers, Hecate and Nemesis, will call our crimes of work of art. We'll get the recognition our moms deserve as well as ourselves. We'll rise up and look down on Them, Lucia, together, 'kay?"
Something in me tingled. Partners in crime used to be Nico's and I's team name, but he left, so he'll be replaced with someone even better. I lied down next to him and smiled at the ceiling.  "Yeah, we'll make all those bastards pay." I lightly touched his hand with the tip of my fingers. "Together, Alabaster."
We layed in silence for a few seconds. I guess skipping out on training today won't be so bad. I closed my eyes and rested a forearm over my eyes, relishing the quiet and peacefulness.
"Hey, Lucia?" He said quietly. He was the only one allowed to call me by my real name, everyone else thought it was just Lucy. I actually liked how he said my name. It rolled off his tounge like velvet.
Keeping my arm over my eyes. I hummed to let him know I was listening.
"Have you ever..... lost someone who was really close to you?"
I felt my heart clench in pain. I swallowed and took a small deep breath before answering. "I have." Even though I hadn't intended for it, my reply came in a whisper.
"My grandpa. He died just a few days before my mother came to visit for the fist time." Alabaster started. I already knew what had happened since I had already seen his memories, but I decided to let him continue and not say anything. "My dad left me at my grandpa's when I was barely four. Apparently my father didn't want me and decided to run off. I don't remember much about him, only that I have his freckles and green eyes. My grandpa raised me like my father should have. He was the best. He would come to all my football games and on my birthdays, he'd let me skip school so we could go paintball shooting and then to the forest to look at the stars that would shine so bright. He was pretty young might I add. He was always there for me. U-until -"
"It's okay." I removed my arm from my eyes and grabbed his hand. "You don't have to force youself to tell me."
He held my hand tightly - not to the point where it was painful, just in a way that told me he needed my comfort. "I want to. I-I have to tell someone. You don't know how hard it is to keep something like this to myself for two years. It-it starts to tear you up inside if you don't open up. I trust you enough to tell you."
The tingling returned. Maybe I'm hungry or something?
I thought over his words. The pain over Bianca's death isn't as bad as it used to be. I guess by distracting myself with training, keeping my secret, and Alabaster, those feeling seem to be pushed to the back of my mind. I trust you, too, Alabaster. Please don't make the same mistakes as my brother. "I..... I'll trust you until you give me a reason not to." I turned my head towards him - he was already looking at me - and gave him a faint smile. Please, I beg you. Don't betray me. I felt my heart ache at just the thought.
His emerald eyes looked at me with intensity, and I felt myself feel a way I can't describe. He closed his eyes and I focused on his face. He had curly eyelashes I wished I had. His eyebrows where thick in a boyish way and - I not sure how - perfectly shaped. His bottom lip had this little verticle line right in the middle - his lips where a pinkish color. And his freckles. I'm pretty sure I can count them all.
