Chapter One - My Favorite Game Comes To Life

*Lucia's P.O.V*

As I was shuffling some Mythomagic cards, I noticed Dr.Thorn staring at us, from about ten feet away. I had a gut feeling, he was up to no good. So, I decided to mind link Nico, my twin and partner in crime.
         ~Hey, Nico~
         ~Yeah?~
~Dr.Thorn is staring at us again. I'm kinda scared, and he's giving me the creeps. I feel as if something bad might happen~
          ~Nah! You're just paranoid.~
~But I'm serious! I'll even bet my Chimera card. But if I'm right, you have to give me your Zeus card.~
         ~Ha! You're soo gonna loose, Sis! Deal!~
~Sure I am. Now do you want to leave this freak show or nah?~
         ~Yep.~
"Bianca?" Me and Nico said in unison. "Can we leave we leave?"
         "Why?" asked Bianca.
"Because Lucy thinks something bad is about to -"
"Why hello children," Dr.Thorn said with a dark smile. I had no idea how he got here but it freaked me out. "I suggest you come with me before you get your self into more trouble than what you're already in."
Bianca and Nico looked at me accusingly. "I didn't anything this week." I said defendingly.
"It was all three of you guys." Dr.Thorn said while sneering.
"But we didn't do anything bad so we don't need to go with you." Bianca said defiantly.
Dr.Thorn glared at us, and as fast as a snake he grabbed me and Nico from the scruffs of our necks like kittens. "Come. Don't say a word or call out for help, or else your siblings die."
My eyes grew wide and Bianca's did too. "Okay." She said. Bianca stood in front of us while Thorn still held our necks. And we left the gym's freak-show.
Bianca stood in front of us while Thorn still held our necks. While we walked, I decided that I wanted one more conversation with my bro before I die.
         ~Hey, Nico?~
         ~Y - Yeah?~
~T - Told you so. You owe me your Zeus card.~
~This is not the time Lucy!~
~ha, to b - bad. Hand it over. I want to know I was victorious before we die.~
~We are not going to die!~
~Gee, ya think this guy is gonna let us go if we say please?~
         ~Well, no, b -~
~Exactly! Period, This convosation is OVER!~
All of a sudden we stopped in the main entry hall. I was so distracted that I bumped into Bianca and tripped over my own feet. The hard rough ground scraped my hands and I grunted in pain. Nico helped me get up and held my hand, and I held Bianca's trembling hand. I looked around and noticed that Thorn was gone. Suddenly the door opened.
At the other side of the room I noticed a boy who he looked like a skater, with his messy jet black hair. In his hand he held a bronze sword. I REAL bronze sword. I usually would have been squealing and fangirling, but then I saw Thorn few feet away from Skater Boy. And my eyes widened in terror.
Skater Boy advanced slowly, lowering the tip of his sword. "It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you."
Behind him I saw Thorn smirk, and if possible my eyes widened more. But Skater Boy was oblivious to the villain behind his back. I wanted to warn him, yell, or signal him to help us, but I couldn't move, fear taking control brain.
"My name's Percy," Skater Boy - Percy said. "I'm going to take you out of here, somewhere safe."
Bianca was trying to warn him too - but it was too late. He whirled around and something went WHIIISH! and hit Percy in his shoulder. Then like a tiger, Thorn yanked him backward and he slammed into the wall between me and Bianca. We had to move apart to not get slammed by Percy. He slashed his sword but Thorn was gone just as fast as he came.
A cold and terrifying laugh echoed through the hall. "Yes, Perseus JACKSON." Thorn said with his French accent. "I know who you are."
Percy tried to free his shoulder but his shirt was pinned to the wall by a black spike, possibly a dagger. Percy looked like he was going to pass out.
A dark silhouette moved towards us. Thorn stepped into the dim light. his face looked ghoulish and his eyes reflected the light of Percy's bronze sword. "Thank you for coming." He said. "I hate middle school dances.
Percy tried to swing again but he was out of reach. WHISH!!!! A second dagger shot from somewhere behind Thorn. It was puzzling how he was throwing those daggers even though he didn't appear to move at all. As if someone was throwing them from behind him.
I heard Bianca yelp and noticed that the dagger impaled its self on the wall, half an inch from her face.
"All three of you will come with me," Thorn said. "Quietly. Obediently. If you make a single noise, if you call for help, if you call out for help or try to fight, I will show you just how accurately I can throw."
I began to tremble slightly and we all began to walk out Westover Hall. We walked in two's, Bianca and Nico in front, Percy and me in the middle, then Thorn behind all of us telling us where to go. I wish I had worn something warmer because my olive dress was obviously not warm enough. Next to me, Percy suddenly stopped walking, his eyes closed.
"What are you doing, Jackson?" Hissed Thorn. "Keep moving!"
Percy opened his eyes and shuffled forward. "It's my shoulder," Percy said. "It burns."
"Bah! My poison causes pain. It will not kill you. Walk!"
And we kept walking further, herding us like sheep. I hadn't realized I was whimpering until Percy whispered "It's okay, everything is going to be okay."
I gave him a sad smile. "I really hope so."
Thorn marched us to the woods. We took a snowy path, dimly lit by old fashion lamps. With the cold wind, I felt my nose and fingers growing numb. "There is a clearing ahead," Thorn said. "We will summon your ride."
"What ride?" I asked. "Where are you taking us?"
"Silence, you insufferable girl!" Thorn said as he pushed me slightly. I felt his rough hands hit my collar bone which was slightly exposed. Except that not all that I felt. When we made physical contact, I felt a surge of darkness. And I saw a flashbacks of his life. A whole bunch of flashbacks crossed my mind but I only managed to understand a few.
I saw Thorn being chased by a group of people who had powerful auroras. He had a huge body of a lion with a leathery, spiky tail. Then I saw Thorn in a dark place slowly reforming, and feeling pain for centuries. Lastly I saw him being chased again by girl hunters dressed in silver. It felt like the flashback was centuries long, but it was actually just a second. And I was back in the present. I knew what he was. But that was impossible, monsters aren't real.
"Don't touch my sister!" Nico said. His voice quivered but I was impressed that he actually had the guts to stand up for me - or say anything at all.
Thorn made a growling sound that definitely wasn't human. It made me flinch, but we all continued to walk forward.
         ~Thank you, Nico. Love you~
~you're welcome. And love ya too, sis~
          "Halt," Thorn said.
The woods had opened up. We'd reached a cliff over looking the sea. I knew this spot, this was where I would go when I felt angry or sad. I can hear the waves crashing to the rocks and I can smell the cold salty froth. But at the moment all I saw was mist and darkness.
Thorn pushed us towards the edge. Percy and I stumbled and Bianca and Nico caught us.
         "Thank you, Nico." I whispered.
"What IS he?" I heard Bianca whisper to Percy. "How do we fight him?"
          "I...I'm working on it."
"I'm scared." Nico said while fidgeting with his Ares figuring.
          "I'm pretty sure he's a Manticore and I'm scared too." I whispered.
Everyone looked at me. Percy was about to say something when Thorn interrupted. "Stop talking! Face me!"
          We all turned.
Thorn eyes glittered hungrily. He pulled something out his coat, and it took me a moment to realize it was a flip-phone. He pressed the side button and said, "The package - it is ready to deliver." There was a garbled reply.
Next to me, I saw Percy glance behind him, towards the sea. Thorn laughed. "By all means, Son of Poseidon, JUMP! There is the sea. Save your self."
"What did he call you?" Bianca muttered.
         "I'll explain later," Percy.
"You do have a plan right?"
         "We're gonna die." I mumble.
"I would kill you before you ever reached the water," Thorn said. "You do not realize who I am, do you?"
Then another dagger shot from his tail. And with help of the flashbacks I know understood how he was throwing the thorns.
"Who wants us?" Bianca demanded. "If you think you'll get ransom, you're wrong. We don't have any family. Nico, Lucia and I..." Her voice broke a little and I gave the snow a glare. Although I can't remember what we did or where we were before this year, I knew we where given away and the thought that that our own parents even had the guts to send us away, made my veins boil.
"- We've got no one but each other."
"Aww," Thorn said. "Don't worry, little brats. You'll be meeting my employer soon enough. Then you will have a brand new family.
I looked up and glared at Thorn but didn't say anything else.
"Luke," Percy said. "You work for Luke."
Thorn's mouth twisted with distaste. I wonder who this 'Luke' is. "You have no idea what is happening, Perseus Jackson. I will let the General enlighten you. You are going to do him a great service tonight. He is looking forward to meeting you."
"The general?" Percy said with an accent like Thorn. It would have been funny if we weren't in this situation. "I mean...Who's the General?"
Thorn looked towards the horizon. "Ah, here we are. Your transportation."
I turned to the direction Thorn was looking and saw headlights and heard the chopping sound of the helicopter.
"Where are you taking us?" Nico and I said in unison. We glanced at each other but didn't say anything.
"You should be proud, Twins. You will have the opportunity to join a great army! Just like that silly game you play with the cards and dolls."
"They're not dolls! They're figurines!" Nico said.
I glared at Thorn and scoffed. "Yeah and you can take your great army and -"
"Now, Now," Thorn warned. "You will change your mind about joining us soon, Twins. And if you do not, well...there are other uses for demigods. We have many monstrous mouths to feed. The Great Stirring is underway."
         "The great what?" Percy asked.
"The stirring of monsters." Thorn said with his famous evil smile he would give me all the time when I was in for detention. "The worst of them, the most powerful, are now waking. Monsters which have not been seen in thousands of years. They will cause death and destruction the likes of which mortals have never known. And soon we shall have the most important monster of all - the one that shall bring the downfall of Olympus!"
"okay," I heard Bianca whisper to Percy. "He's completely nuts.
"We have to jump off the cliff," Percy said quietly. "Into the sea."
"Wow," I muttered. "You're nuts, too"
Percy glanced at me. He was about to say something, when a forced plowed us all into the ground. The force apparently had a hand because it smacked my head pretty hard and laid dazed on the snow. I heard fighting and talking around me but I didn't bother to look or pay attention. My head ached and I could tell I was going to have a bruise the next day. Suddenly, a loud buzzing noise was all I could hear. I squeezed my eyes shut while covering my ears with my palms.
Join me....join me Lucia di Angelo a male's voice said as the ringing became louder. The man kept repeating the message over and over.
All of a sudden a the sound of hunting horn being blown pierced the night and the whispering immediately stopped. I stood up and looked for my siblings and went towards them.
At the moment no one deemed to move.
        "No, it cannot be -"
Thorn's sentence was interrupted when a streak of silver zoomed by. An arrow the color of moonlight was embedded in his shoulder.
Thorn stumbled backward, wailing in agony. "Curse you!" Thorn cried. He unleashed his spikes, dozen of them at once, into the woods from where the arrow had came, but in reply, silvery arrows shot back. Amazingly the arrows seemed to split Thorn's thorns in half, and I'm pretty sure I wasn't hallucinating because I thought that was impossible.
The Manticore - Thorn -  pulled the arrow from his shoulder with a howl of pain.his breathing was heavy. Percy tried to swipe at him with his sword, but Thorn wasn't as injured as look since he managed to dodge Percy's attack and slam his tail into his shield and knocking him aside.
Then the archers emerged from the woods. There was probably about a dozen and there were all girls. The youngest was probably ten and the oldest about fourteen. They wore silvery parkas and jeans, and they all were armed with bows. They all advanced on the Manticore with determined expressions. They were the girls from my vision. They were the -
"The Hunters!" A girl with blond curly hair cried to my right.
One of the older archers stepped forward with her bow drawn. She was tall and graceful with coppery skin. And unlike the the other girls, a silver circlet was braided into the top of her long dark hair, so she looked like the princess of archery. "Permission to kill, my lady?"
I wasn't sure who she was addressing because she kept her eyes on the Manticore.
Thorn wailed. "This is not fair! Direct interference! It is against the Ancient Laws."
"Not so," said another hunter. This one looked younger than the other one. She had auburn hair in a ponytail, and eyes that were silvery yellow, like the moon. Her expression was stern and dangerous. "The hunting of all wild beasts are within my sphere. And you, foul creature, are a wild beast." she looked at the older girl. "Zoë, permission granted."
Thorn growled. "If I cannot have these alive, then I shall have them dead!" Thorn began to pounce at Nico, Bianca and I. Bianca grabbed us and held us. I closed my eyes waiting for Thorn.
"No!" Yelled the blonde girl, and she charged the monster, intercepting his lunge at us. I widened my eyes at the blonde.
"Get back, Half-Blood!" The girl - Zoë - said. "Get out of the line of fire!"
The blond girl jumped on Thorn's back and stabbed him with her knife. Thorn howled, turning in circles with his tail flailing as the blond seemed to hold on for dear life.
        "Fire!" Zoë said.
        "No!" Percy screamed.
The hunters let their arrows loose and they flew towards Thorn. The first one caught him on his neck. A second one impaled itself o his chest. The monster staggered backwards, wailing, "This is not the end, Huntress! You shall pay!"
Then before anyone could react, Thorn, with the blonde still on his back, leaped over the cliff and fell into darkness.
        "Annabeth!" Percy yelled.
Percy started to run after her but then the helicopter made a snap-snap-snap sound of gunfire. Bianca, Nico, and I stood there frozen - we were out of range of fire - and most the hunters scattered as tiny holes from the gunfire were created on the snow at their feet, but the girl with auburn looked up calmly at the copter.
"Mortals," She announced, "are not allowed to witness my hunt."
She thrust out her hand, and - whoa! - the helicopter exploded into a flock of beautiful black ravens, which scattered into the night.
The Hunter advanced on us and I huddled closer to Bianca and Nico.
Zoë, stopped short when she saw the girl with black choppy hair. "You." She said with distaste.
"Zoë Nightshade." The black-haired girl replied, her voice trembling with anger. "Perfect timing, as usual."
Zoë scanned the rest of us. "Five half-bloods and a satyr, my lady."
"Yes," said the younger huntress. "Some of Chiron's campers, I see."
"Annabeth!" Yelled Percy. "You have to save her!"
The auburn-haired girl turned to Percy. "I'm sorry, Percy Jackson, but your friend is beyond help."
Percy struggled to his feet but a couple of hunters held him down.
"You are in no condition to be hurling yourself off cliffs," the young girl said.
"Let me go!" Percy demanded. "Who do you think you are?"
I immediately knew he crossed a line that was to never be crossed. And I was proven correct when I saw Zoë stepped forward. She looked ready to smack Percy hard.
"No," the auburn-haired girl ordered. "I sense no disrespect, Zoë. He is simply distraught. He does not understand."
The girl looked at Percy, her eyes colder and brighter than the winter moon. "I am Artemis," she said. "Goddess of the Hunt."
