Mouse's P.O.V

“Mouse! I was so worried!” Shadow says hugging the life out of me. So I might die today after all. Samuel walks over to us slowly, and he seems unsure.

“Do I want to know what happened?” He asks Francis, looking between the two of us. Probably getting the wrong idea.

“Shadow, I called my family to… Clean up a family problem. I might even be on trial, with the head, when I get home. So you should stay out of sight.” I say feeling tired and ready to fall over.

“What! What happened, what I did I miss?” Shadow asks shaking me. I feel myself grimace as the memories start flooding my mind. I take a deep breath, calming myself, and giving him a blank look.

“Kim tried killing me, so I killed her… Oh, and I'm adopted.” I say remembering that all over again. On days like this I just want to crawl into bed and just sleep.

“Mouse…” Shadow says in a pained voice, as he hugs me again. He doesn't have to ask to understand how I'm feeling, or what I'm thinking. He knows I won't like to answer. Shadow understands me, he's learned to over the years. I'm grateful that he understands me as he doesn't.

“I can take you home, if you'd like.” Samuel offers. I look at him and give him a slight smile or at least try to.

“That would be nice, thank you.” I say hugging Shadow one last time.

“I'm ready whenever ever you are.” He says quietly.

“Okay, I'll be just a minute. See you around Shadow. Take care of yourself.” I say looking him in the eye.

“I will, you do the same.” He says half smiling. I turn to Francis

“I'll catch a ride with my brother, if that's what you were going to ask.” He says, with an unreadable expression.

“I was, but I was also going to give you your wallet.” I say handing it back to him.

“You pick pocketed me!” Shadow shrieks. I shrug, before turning back to Francis.

“We probably won't meet again for a while. You're a good person Francis. You have no reason to be jealous of your brother.” He blushes when I say that. “Whatever happens, whether your family and mine don't get along or are best friends. I'd still like to be your friend. If you can, please tell your brother I'm sorry. To be honest I was about to tell you, that I'm an assassin, when he came running up.” I say and he looks at me a little shocked.

“You were?” He says trying to comprehend what I'm saying.

“Yes Francis, I was.” I say extending my hand to him. He looks at my hand before stretching out his own, but instead of shaking it. He pulls me in for a hug.

“You are an odd one, my dear.” he says, probably smiling.

I start to walk after Samuel. He seems to be lost in thought. I almost want to ask what's on his mind, but mine is full of its own thoughts. So we walk and eventually sit in silence. It's a seven hour drive back home.

“So if I turn myself in, we'll both be on trial… Together.” Samuel says breaking the silence that had engulfed us. I look at him surprised, he's right we probably would.

“Probably.” I say wondering where he's going with this.

“So it would be best not to even go back.” He says more to himself.

“What do you mean by that?” I ask him getting very confused.

“Mouse, would you like to run away with me?” He asks glancing at me. I give him a blank look.

“Samuel, this isn't some cliché love story.” I tell him flat out.

“I didn't mean it like that!” He says defensively.

“Sure you didn't.” I say looking out the window. I see that billboard where they say the name of a town and how many residents it has. This one says Cohasset. I don't remember passing this town ever before…

“I didn't!” Samuel says trying to end that discussion.

“Samuel, where are we?” I say sitting up straight, feeling slightly confused.

“Driving in a car, on the earth.” He says in a duh tone. I feel myself blush, so I glare at him.

“Don't be a smart ass. I don't recognize this area, so where are we?” I ask him quite annoyed.

“To be honest we're not going to your town… we're going back to my home town.” He says matter of fact like. I stare at him shocked.

“I have to go back, you don't!” I say unbuckling.

“Don't unbuckle! That's dangerous to do when driving.” He says trying to rebuckle me.

“Don't drive distracted! That's even more dangerous!” I yell at him. “Stop the car, or I'll jump out of the car!” I say feeling myself start to panic. I can't just leave, I have a responsibility to the family.

“I can't do that.” He says annoyed, and I hear the atomic lock.

“Why can't you?”

“Because.” He says stubbornly.

“You do realize you're technically kidnapping me… Right?” I point out to him.

“Wouldn't be the first time.”

Done! That's right I'm ending it here. 😇 I'll be editing this book and hopefully publishing it in the future along with a second book. I hope you liked it. Please vote and comment.
