The characters are twins, Jax and Jinx, told from Jax's pov

"So this is it, huh? The end of the world."
Jinx snorted, "I guess it is."
I looked around, and wondered what our parents were doing, probably just partying until they had to stop. Looking down, I kicked the nearest rock, watching it skitter off to who-knows-where.
"So what now, just sit around and do nothing?"
Apparently, that was our only option, and I said so. Looking back, it was good, all of it. The friends, home, family could have been better, but overall, it was good. "Ya know, it's kind of anticlimactic, all of that buildup, all of the waiting," I said.
"I know, seriously! I mean, I always thought it would be bigger, more dramatic, you know?"
"Yeah, like, this is kind what I expected, but it is kind of pathetic, but, anyway, it's right here."
I looked around; we were in a gorge, next to a fast, but peaceful river, unnaturally bright in the unending dusk. At the edges of the massive gorge were slick, black cliffs, leading up to a dismal horizon, flecked with a few twisted, dead trees. A tiny bit of dead, dry grass could be seen as well. There was a thick mist going up to our chests, swirling, dense, but still giving us a decent view of the ground. Above that, it was perfectly clear, and all of it was totally silent.
"It's weirdly peaceful, isn't it?"
"Yeah, it's completely silent, and empty. Creepy, and cool." I replied to Jinx's random comment, and stared off into oblivion, and then down at the prostrate forms beneath us.
"Why do we keep saying 'the end', I mean, which end would it be? It'd be easier to say 'the edge'"
I cracked up, and reached down to wake up the dogs; we needed to get back to the camp before we fell off the edge from exhaustion.
