TW: DEATH, VIOLENCE MENTION
The prompt is bolded.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Emma stared down at the valley, the council of gods within. "Mara," she said, "I don't think this is right."
The goddess glared at Emma. "You are my champion, mortal. My champion, and I am Fate." She whirled to look at Emma directly, then yanked Emma to look at her. "It is not your place to determine what is right– only to follow Fate."
Emma wanted to look down again on the valley the council was held in. The valley of the ones she had been told to destroy. Instead she stared into the goddess's eyes.
Mara glared harder.
Emma stared back, ignoring the goddess's claim of 'insolence' as she continued to stare back. "Will this truly help other people?" A demand, not a question.
"It is what Fate demands."
"You call yourself Fate," Emma said, "You said Fate demands this war of gods. Is this truly what is to happen, or is this your own goals? Did you choose me to mold my fate or because it was set?"
"You are fated to be the Godkiller. I saw this, you are destined toward greatness." The goddess let go of Emma's arm and stood as tall as she could, crossing her arms. "But you must end this war to be recognized. Now go, do your duty."
Emma stood back, crossed her arms in a mirror of the goddess. "What if I end this war by surrendering?"
Mara snarled, "You don't get to surrender. You lose when I say you lose, you win when I say you win, you die when I say you die. I haven't said you can die yet. Pick your axe up-- you are the Godkiller-- do your duty!"
Emma picked her axe up, hefted it, and inspected the blade. "So, this destiny only was 'Godkiller,'" she mused, then looked up at Mara with a grin. She lunged forward, determined.
Emma looked down at sightless eyes below her. "Well, that destiny never said what god I'd be killing." She kicked Mara's head, then walked into the valley. "Who knew that this war only needed one death to end."
