Yet another old one, but this time it's not based on a prompt.
This little (really little) drabble is from when Dicey had just been found by Lee and got a massive infodump about being human. Set well before anything else I wrote featuring Dicey.

"What is that?" The words sounded mechanical, even to her own ears, but she was still getting used to speaking. Well, acting human in general.
Lee didn't look up from her carving. "Stylus," she said, turning the piece of... whatever she was carving runes into. She carved one more into the small rod, then held it out. "Here Dicey, try it. See if you can use it."
"How?" She– Dicey (whatever her new name was, she'd never had one before, not like the one she had now) turned it over in her hands.
"Draw something," Lee told her, then elaborated upon seeing Dicey's confused expression. "Like writing, but a picture," she said.
"Draw..." Writing, drawing– those were human things. (Yes, Dicey was human, but she was still getting used to it.) The rod was pointed at both ends, so she didn't think it mattered which end she used. She held up the rod, made a motion in the air as if writing (drawing) a line, then jumped back when an actual line appeared where the end of the stylus had been. Dicey looked at Lee, whose face slowly cracked into a smile. Dicey tensed, wondering what she did wrong, before remembering: showing teeth means happy, not mad.
"Well," Lee said, "do you want to learn magic?"
