Cara's here in Saint Paul with Matt, Anabelle, and Triston for the week just to visit. She's helping me with minor wedding plans, like what I want my theme to be. I'm thinking a vintage, old timey music theme, like The Beatles, and Elton John, with records as part of the center pieces and decorations, but simple, not tacky.

The twins are five months old now, and cute as can be. They're fraternal twins. Triston looks a lot like what Cara and I looked like when we were babies. Anabelle looks a lot like Matt's mom and sister.

Matt and Cole have decided to head put for some 'guy time', while Cara and I have alone time to start on my plans, and finish up hers. Her wedding is in two months, and the last thing she needs is to make sure the menu is complete with the right options for all of the 90 guests. I planning on almost 150 guests, and my wedding will be next July, out in Chicago.

"So, sixty-three of my guests are going to eat the fish, and the other twenty-seven are going to eat the chicken. I thought it would have been the other way around. Almost fifty people have yet to respond, and they only have a few more weeks", Cara says to me, studying a piece of paper in front of her on the table.

I hold Anabelle on my lap, bouncing her up and down on my knee. She laughs at me as I make faces at her, while her twin brother was asleep in one of the guest rooms on the other side of the house.

"I thought you had steak on your menu?" I ask her.

"I did. I had the fish, the chicken, and the steak on my menu for people to choose from. No one chose it. That's weird, right?"

"Odd, yeah. I would have chosen the steak, but when you showed me those pictures of the food, and the chicken looked better, but now you don't have to pay as much".

"No, you mean, Dad doesn't have to pay as much", Cara jokes. We both laugh.

Cara and I go through more of her plans, then try to look for pictures of her wedding dress and venue. We can't find an exact picture of the dress, but we did find the website of her venue about an hour outside of Detroit. I almost chose the same place, but I wanted more of my parents help, rather than Cara, who pretty much just wanted mine and her best friend, Willow's.

"I need to start on my wedding invitations. I've got all of the wild, a few of the Hawks, all of Cole's high school friends that we still talk to, all of our family, all of Cole's family, except for Devon of course, who no one in the family except his mother ever talks to, Terra, Aiden, Noah. Who else should I add? I know not everybody would be able to come".

Cara thinks for a moment. "You should invite Peter, see whether either him or Cole would freak out so bad". I give her a look. "Ok, fine", Cara says in a fake sad tone. I laugh.

"I haven't talked or seen anything about Peter in almost three years, which I am extremely grateful for. I had no idea what I had ever seen in him".

My phone starts to ring beside me, and with the screen facing down, I don't even look. "It's probably Cole, he can leave a message", I say nonchalantly.

The phone dings to say that I have a voicemail a second later. Cara and I go back to our wedding plans. I start to look on my laptop for caterers open for my wedding date, and find a few, writing them down and then starts to look through reviews of each company. I finally settle on one that I had had at an event when I was in senior year of high school. it was really good, so I was glad I didn't have to travel there just to taste some food.

Cara and I are both going through our laptops for different things when her phone starts to ring. She goes to find it in the living room and comes back, setting it down on the table and hitting the speaker button. "Hi Mom", she says loudly into the phone.

Mom doesn't say anything, and I can't hear anything for a moment, then all of a sudden, I hear crying. Cara and I look at each other, then I say, "Mom? Are you okay".

Mom still doesn't say anything, she just continues to cry and whimper. "Mom answer me, please", Cara says into the phone.

"It's your father", my mother sobs. Cara and I look at each other again, both with worried faces. Our mother continues to cry and sob.

"What happened to Dad?" I ask, trying to yell so she can hear over her crying. She doesn't reply.

"Mom?" I ask. "What happened to Dad?"

"He was killed. Your father is dead".
