Boom Clap
You make me feel good
Come on to me co-I slam my hand down on my alarm clock in frustration. Today is the beginning of the thirty-day countdown. Only thirty more days until I finish college, thirty days till I am free.
Free of what? I hear you cry. Skipping the long story, I live with my stepmother and stepsisters. And they're exactly how they sound. Stepmothers and stepsisters are usually portrayed as wicked cows, I can tell you from front row experience that is very true.
I get changed quickly after washing my long brown locks and rush downstairs. If I didn't have breakfast made for the witch by the time she was downstairs I wouldn't have any legs.
Eggs, bacon and toast, I laid all of the food onto circular plates and placed them on the dining table. I snuck some fruit and a carton of apple juice into my bag before the twins came running in.
"But Jenna doesn't deserve him, he is just too cute. Isn't he Cleo?" Lucy questioned me as she sat down, digging into her food.
"I don't know Lucy" I replied bluntly.
"What planet is she on? She never gets anything, is she like dumb?" Lydia spat at Lucy as she sent me an evil grin.
"You might find that stereotypically blondes are classed as dumb, which I am not. And that statement isn't true, it's proven that most of last years graduates were blonde and got the highest marks."
I stopped myself from continuing when I realized it was pointless trying to express my point, they would never understand what I was saying. Everything I ever say seems to go through one ear and out the other.
The twins have strawberry blonde hair which goes to their rib cages. I can just manage to tell them both apart. If you look closely enough you can see that Lucy has a mole under her right eye. They may seem harmless, but they can both turn into vile girls when they want to.
"Cleo, what is this?" The witch screeches at the top of her lungs. I mentally roll my eyes as I approach Vivianne. Like her daughters she also has strawberry blonde hair, it stops just below her shoulders.
I gulped before replying. I have to bite my tongue a lot, It took me some time to realize but keeping my mouth shut and taking crap was how I needed to act when I was around the twins and the witch. If I was to go out of line, there would be repercussions.
"What's what?" I asked softly, as I tried to keep Vivianne calm.
"That! Are you trying to give me food poisoning? You retched girl, did you think I wouldn't notice that the bacon is undercooked?" Vivianne angrily placed the plate in my hand before sending me to the grill. I quietly grilled some more bacon before placing it back on the plate and putting it on the table.
I quickly popped the plate in front of the witch and to my surprise, she didn't say anything. Something is off with her, she's never this nice. And this is the nicest she's ever been to me.
"So, do you think she deserves him?" Lucy asked again, bringing me out of my thoughts. Who on earth was she on about?
"Who?" I spoke a little too angrily.
"Mother, can you hear that tone in her voice? Can you!" Lydia snapped which made me jump. Vivianne waved her hand as she got up and left the kitchen. What was going on with her? She would usually bite my head off or ground me.
I turned around to see the twins starring at me with evil smirks.
"Dylan, you idiot! Dylan, Jenna's boyfriend. She doesn't deserve him," Lucy yelled.
"But if we were friends with her, we wouldn't mind," Lydia shouted just as Lucy elbowed her rib.
How could I forget? Jenna is the colleges go to girl, even the nerds would go to her for advice but if they knew better they would stay away from her. She always wanted something in return and if she didn't get what she wanted, well let's say we haven't seen the victims since.
Not that she killed them, the simple fact she mentally tortured the poor kids. She was ruthless and would make your life miserable. In other words, she's the year's bitch. Not to mention her minions who follow her like lost puppies. Anna and Katie seriously don't have there own minds, everything they do is for Jenna. They live for Jenna.
And now you're probably wondering who Dylan is. He's the captain of the football team, very handsome, troublemaker and handsome. Did I say he was handsome? He has the looks but isn't all there, at least he pretends not to be. He happens to be in my Math class. You guessed it, I'm retaking math. I don't even understand how he is in my set, he gets 100% on all of our exams.
I was brought out of my thoughts when I feel a slap on the back of my head.
"Ow, what was that for?" I whine as I shoot my hand to my head.
"Don't drool over Dylan! He is with Jenna," Lucy smirked "hashtag Denna forever," both girls said in unison before flipping their hair in my face.
I was left confused as the twins left the kitchen bare. One minute they're moaning about Jenna being with Dylan and then the next they're voting for them. I rolled my eyes as I dashed around cleaning the plates.
After I cleaned the dishes I throw my bag on my back, swung my camera around my neck and scooted out of the door. I had ten minutes till class started, I was going to be late.
•••
I ran into the classroom looking like a tomato. All eyes were on me. My cheeks were now redder. I mumbled my apology for being late and then made my way to the back of the class. Walking past Katie in the process, she placed her foot out and successfully sent me flying to the floor.
As I sat up, Katie and Anne whispered horrible names. Usually, I would ignore them but now that everyone in the class had joined in, I felt so small. Why was everyone so horrible?
"Settle down," Ollie, our tutor, shouted.
I sat down quietly, examining my camera for any damages. Luckily she hadn't broken my camera. If she had I would be screwed, I don't have the money to get a new one.
The lesson went rather quickly, we went over what our last project was. It was our last piece of work which was worth most of our final mark. I need to get the highest mark I can possibly get so that I'll be excepted for Dales art academy. Dales art academy is for all students which are interested in a career in art, my dream is to become a professional photographer.
Thirty days Cleo, thirty days.
