-Avangeline's P.O.V-
"Avangeline, what's wrong?" Richard asked, holding my shoulders.
"Nothing, I'm fine." I gave him a smile and he sighed, but didn't push it. "How is you wrist?" I asked, taking his wrist in my hands tenderly. It was slightly swollen and red, but nothing too bad.
"It's okay. But we did it." He smiled brightly. I smiled back and we shared a brief hug. We may have looked very close during the dance, but we're not really close. We dance well together, but nothing else really. He's into sports and videogames. He has friends and hangs out with them, I sit at home and study or perfect my dancing.
"All contestants back on stage, please!" Hannah yelled. Everyone practically ran there, but I held my back straight, my neck going along and my head was held up. I walked with calm steps, making people think I was so at ease and everything was perfect.
I walked in and put on my show smile, walking beside Richard. He had changed out of his costume into a pair of black sweatpants and a white top. I had put on black skinny jeans and a mint green blouse, my hair was in perfect ringlets and I had applied some red lipstick, keeping my make-up to the bare minimum.
"Okay, so the judges has picked the three finalists. Can Russian Weiner, Belle and Avangeline and Richard step forward?" Hannah asked, speaking into the microphone.
We did as told. It was us, a girl named Belle who sang beautifully and Charlotte's dance crew. They looked... Interesting.
"In third place is Russian Weiner!" People applauded them as they got golden medals around their necks for third place. They didn't seem sad at all, just smiled and hugged each other. "And on first place is... Avangeline and Richard!" Loud applauding and cheering was heard.
I glanced to where my father was. He wasn't doing anything but looking at his phone like always. I sighed inwardly, but walked with Richard. We got a check each, golden medals, and a trophy. Belle got a smaller check and a golden medal as well.
We smiled and stood for pictures, then walked backstage. I safely put my things in my bag and zipped it up before I started walking to the car.
"Hey, Avangeline!" I cringed at the loud voice, but turned around to see Charlotte again.
"Hello, Charlotte. Congratulations on third prize," I said and gave her a smile. She was smiling, showing her braces.
"Thank you, congrats on first though, you totally deserved it. So there is a celebration party, wanna come?" she asked me, handing me a piece of paper with an address and a phone number on it.
"My apologies, I can't make it," I said and she frowned slightly.
"Oh, why?" She fiddled with her fingers a bit, but didn't look away from me.
"I have to stud,." I said, telling her half the truth.
"Okay, I'll see you around." She gave me a smile and a small wave before she ran over to where her brother stood with four other boys. I watched as her brother smiled and hugged her tightly, gushing over how proud he was of her getting third, even though it was all meant as a joke.
I felt my stomach drop as I watched her smiled so brightly and laughing along with her brother and his friends. I took one last look at them, but this time I noticed Harry was looking over to me, so I quickly turned and left, but still walked gracefully.
I got in the backseat of my father's car and didn't do anything but put on my seatbelt. There was no music or nothing in the car as we drove. I sat elegantly, my hands folded in my lap, my legs not crossed or twisted, just simple and straight forward.
When we arrived at home, I let the butler open the door. He took my bag and I just walked inside. I walked upstairs and past my sister's room, then into mine. I closed the door soundlessly, taking my shoes of smoothly and placing them in the right place neatly.
When that was done, I sat down on the edge of my bed and looked around in my room, then at my hands that laid in my lap.
"Ava?" I looked up and saw little Esperanza. The small blonde locks of hair left on her, looks flat and weak. I smiled and opened my arms. My little sister went to me and crawled into my arms.
"Bonjour, beau." I said in fluent French. She smiled and put her very thin arms around my neck, her heartbeat was slower than any normal 10 year old's.
"Bonjour ma soeur parfaite," she responded, making me smile.
"I'm far from perfect, Ranz," I said, but she just weakly shook her head.
"To me you are," she said, warming my heart. I kissed her pale forehead and moved us more into my bed.
"Well, you're perfect to me as well. And guess who I met today." I smiled, changing my clothes and putting on my satin night gown that reached my knees. I climbed into my huge king sized bed beside me sister. I pulled her into my arms, not wanting to have any distance between us.
"I don't know." She shrugged smally, resting her head on my chest, listening to my heartbeat which lulled her to sleep every night.
"I met that band you adore so dearly." She raised her head, her eyes alight.
"Really? How were they?" she asked excitedly. I smiled as I stroked her nearly bald head. She only had a couple of light blonde locks left there.
"They were kind, very different from me, but you already knew that." She giggled and nodded.
"Everyone is different from you, which makes you unique, Ava," Esperanza said, giving a small yawn. "Do you think I'll meet them before my time is over?" My heart clenched at her words.
"I'm sure you can. They say you've got at least 3 months, I'll make it happen before then," I said, the corner of my eyes damp, but I swallowed the lump in my throat, keeping it all in. I took a couple of deep and calming breaths and soon heard her slight snores.
I looked down at my beautiful sister, stroking her head. She always snored slightly with the corner of her lips curled up.
I looked up and sighed, then looked over to my door, seeing my father standing there. He didn't say anything, just looked at us shortly, then left. I longingly looked at the spot where he had been standing, then closed my eyes and slowly fell into dreamland, which is not really dreams, it's just black or it's nightmares. Esperanza has been sleeping in my bed lately, so she keeps my nightmares away.
I don't even want to know what I'd do without her.
