Chapter 18 – Together Walking Forward
The next day the four genin of Team Seven stood on a bridge waiting for their sensei to appear. As usual, the jonin was hours late. “Sheesh! Okay, look! Are we going to just stand around and let them get away with this? Why is it, whenever we get called out, we end up waiting like dopes for the challenger to show?” Sakura questioned her team.
Naruto pumped his fist into the air and cheered Sakura on. “She’s right! Say it, Sakura-chan!!”
“I mean, think how I feel. I overslept, and I didn’t even get to blow-dry my hair!”
Naruto nodded, “Yeah. It’s not right. I overslept too…And I didn’t even pause to wash my face or brush my teeth!!”
“Ewww! Gross!”
Miyuki sighed at her teammates complaining. Unlike the others, Miyuki had already grown accustom to being kept waiting, though she would admit she certainly didn’t enjoy it. There were other things she could have been doing at the moment. “He’ll be here soon,” Miyuki informed her team in hopes that they would calm down.
Sakura glanced over at Miyuki. “How do you know?”
Miyuki lifted her hand up to her nose and tapped it lightly. “I can smell him.” As if to prove her point, Kakashi appeared on top of one of the bridge’s archways waving at them.
“Morning, guys!! Today, I wandered a bit from the path of life…”
Naruto and Sakura whipped around to face the jonin, both pointing angrily at him. “You are such a liar!!” They shouted in unison. Sakura then added, “Would it kill you to at least pretend to be sorry?”
Kakashi ignored the two and jumped down onto the bridge. He leaned up against the railing were Miyuki sat quietly petting Kaminari. “In any case…This may surprise you, but I’ve recommended all four of you for the Chunin Selection Exam.” The four genin blinked at Kakashi’s words. None of them had expected that. Kakashi held out four applications, handing three to the ones that stood in front of him and one to the girl that sat beside him. “You have to fill out applications.”
Narut suddenly tackled Kakashi, causing the man to stumble and bump into Miyuki. Miyuki’s arms pin-wheeled as she started to fall backwards off the bridge and into the water below. Kaminari luckily managed to jump off of Miyuki in time. “Kyaa~!!” Miyuki shrieked in surprise.
Her scream….it was so cute! Miyuki’s team thought.
All of Team Seven leaned over the railing as they waited for Miyuki to reemerge from the water. As she stood up, a shadow was cast over her eyes and a dark aura started to surround her. Slowly, Miyuki started to look up at her team. A cold smile spread across her lips as she gazed up at them, two specifically. She’s scary again! A shiver of fear ran down each of their spines. They all had a very bad feeling. “Oh…Kakashi-sensei…Naruto-kun~!” The said two paled when they heard their names.
“Should…we be running now?” Naruto whispered. Kakashi was about to answer, but stopped when he no longer saw Miyuki in the water. Suddenly, Naruto and Kakashi were pushed off the bridge. “Gah!!!” When the two males reemerged, they saw Miyuki standing on the bridge with an amused expression.
“Whatever are you two doing in the water?” Miyuki teased, “Don’t tell me you decided to suddenly go for a swim?”
“Miyuki-chan!!” Naruto shouted.
Miyuki raised an eyebrow at the blonde. “Yes, Naruto-kun? Is something the matter?”
Naruto faltered. The look Miyuki was giving made him think twice about yelling at her. “N-nothing! It’s nothing!”
