Kyle in all his glorious yumminess ->

Ayden's POV

For a few precious seconds I wasn’t able to decipher what Kyle had said and just looked up at him with widened eyes.

“W-What?” He released a shaky breath making me feel guilty for not reacting right away but he said it again anyway. He was so very strong and more mature than I would have ever expected.

“We’re mates.”

Thousand thoughts raced through my head all at once accompanied by a single name as my vision got blurry and I quickly buried my face into his chest, ashamed of showing him such weakness.

“I-It can’t be…” I whispered shaking my head frequently and burying my nails into his arms making him flinch but not releasing me.

“Ayden?” His voice sounded so very hurt and confused. But how could that be? How could he be my mate? It’s not possible. How could he claim to be the one for me when I knew he wasn’t? I have no mate, I’ve been too long on this world to have one and not know it. But did I know? Gentle hands cupped my face and stroked the tears away from my cheek, so I could look up at him.

“What are you talking about, Ayden? Why can’t I be the one you love?”

I looked up at him dazed. He looked so very perfect to my eyes but now I could see the dark edges around his eyes for the first time, the tired look they seemed to hold. Was it my fault? Before I even knew it I had lifted my fingers and gently traced the traces of tiredness on his face.

“I’m sorry.” My voice was barely audible but I knew he had still heard me and I knew he was aware what I was apologizing for.

“It’s fine.” He smiled gently, closing his eyes and leaning into my touch as if to savor it, which despite everything currently running through my head and weighing me down let soft giggles escape my mouth.

His beautifully green eyes shot open piercing me with their deep intensity and looking at me questioningly. I just shook my head giggling harder now. A slow smile spread over his face as he looked at me with such admiration I nearly couldn’t bear it.

“What is so funny, my little one?” I looked up at him huffing. “I’m not little. Beside I’m still much older than you!”

“Well, tell me then. And you can’t be that much older than me, you don’t look a day over twenty-three.” I looked up into his smiling face with a suddenly heavy heart. If only he knew who I really was but then I will say it again: I wasn’t ready to tell him yet.

“I was just thinking about how funny it is that I of all people sit here with a big bad alpha and play cuddle competition.”

A deep laugh rumpled deliciously through his muscular chest. “So now I’m the big bad alpha, yes?” He smirked down at me provokingly. “Besides I’m not an alpha yet, I still have to woo my mate in so I can inherit that position from my father.”

His eyes were so full of love and his embrace tightened, successfully pulling me further into his body and I liked this place so very much, so how could I possibly hurt him even more than I already have?

“Kyle?”

“Hmm?” I smiled in his neck at his soothing tone. I really fell hard over the past few days of knowing him.

“My life is complicated and I don’t know whether I can be your mate, become your Luna, but at least I want you to know that it was never my intention to hurt you. There are more people out to get me than you would think and up to a few days I lived my life happily alone in a cabinet in the woods."
