You hum the tune of "Monster Mash" as you string up false cobwebs about your apartment. The fake spiders were already in place, as well as the skeletons and spooky lights.

A loud beep from the microwave interrupts your decorating. You race to your kitchenette, flinging the door open and getting the popcorn from inside of it. You poured it into a cute, Halloween-themed bowl and placed it on the coffee table in your living room. You pause for a moment to think.

Decorations- check. Food- check. Movies- check. Batman shirt- check. You're ready for Spencer Reid, your best friend, to come over.

Halloween had always been a shared love between you. Before you met Spencer, you usually spent it alone. That is, until a few years ago when Spencer and Morgan had shown up at your door on Halloween night, drunk as skunks and covered in paint. Every year since, Spencer had been coming over to yours to watch movies and eat popcorn. It was your tradition, and you always looked forward to it. It had been postponed a few times due to cases, but had always happened at some point.

With everything set up, you sit down on the couch to wait. At seven exactly, your Halloween-themed doorbell rings, and you spring up from your perch excitedly. In a rush, you run to the door and unlock it.

Spencer stands there, carrying his satchel and wearing his TARDIS shirt. You smile, hugging him quickly and gesturing him into your apartment with a flourish. "Velcome in, Spencer." You joke in an overly-pronounced accent. You bare your teeth at him, showing fake vampire fangs. He grins at you.

"Very convincing, Y/N." He says as he closes the door behind him.

"I know, right?" You quip, mock arrogance apparent. "I'd make a great vampiress."

"You would. Very vicious." He jokes, little smirk in place.

"That I would be. Hey, want anything? Coffee, tea, pop?" You ask him, pulling out glasses.

"That's alright." He says, "What movies are we watching this time around?"

"Hmm... it's up to you, but I have the original Batman TV show, the Hunger Games trilogy, and a few of the Insidious and Paranormal activity movies this year." You say, ticking them off on your fingers.

"I picked last year, so you pick now." He says, smiling at you as he heads to your living room. You follow, carrying a bowl of candy. Its twin sits by the door, waiting for trick-or-treaters.

"Okay, so... I pick Insidious. Let's do this thing." You say with a smirk. Grabbing the DVD, you pop open the player and insert the disk.

About fifteen minutes later, the movie is just getting good. With each startling event on the screen, you jump. By the third jumpscare, Spencer is clutching a pillow. By the fourth, he lets out a little squeak.

You turn to him, raising an eyebrow. "Do we need to stop the movie?"

His cheeks turn red. "No, no, keep watching. It's okay."

"You sure?" You ask, frowning as he releases the pillow with difficulty.

"Yeah." It sounds vaguely like a question.

You shrug and turn back to the movie. Scary shit is going down. You smile slightly.

After another sound leaves his lips a few minutes later, you stop the movie. "You know, I wouldn't expect a lover of Halloween like you to get so freaked out over a movie." You tease.

"I'm not freaked out," he protests. "It's just... I don't do well with surprises."

"Well, you should have told me! Besides, we've watched scary movies together for years. Why is it only getting to you now?" You say, frowning.

"I don't know... maybe something to do with that last case..." He says airily. You aren't fooled.

"If the case was bothering you, you should have told me." You reprimand. "It was bothering me too for a while."

"Then why are you okay now?" He asked, an odd look crossing over his face.

"I'm not. At least, not entirely. But because you're here, I'm not worried." You admit.

He furrows his eyebrows, frowning at you.

"You may not think you're brave, Spencer, but I know you are. You're the only reason I can stand to watch horror movies year after year." You say, reaching over to touch his arm.

"But you..." He begins, staring at you with something akin to awe, "You never show fear. Hotch always calls on you when we have to interview a sadist."

"Just because I don't show fear doesn't mean I don't feel it." You say.

He just stares at you, mouth slightly agape.

"C'mon, Spence, it's Halloween. Let's have fun. You wanna watch Batman?"

     "Can we?"

"Of course. What better time for Batman?"
