Chapter 8

The day after the showdown with Cameron, Cameron had transferred. I found it pretty funny; guess he was trying to get away from Raleigh. Abey was still here and he still creeped me out. I made sure to stay close to Raleigh and he walked me to every class. We stuck close to each other to prevent another incident. He also started to take me to and from school, we were taking extra precautions. My mother didn’t notice because she was never home when I was out of school. My side had bruised up and turned all purple. The day before Raleigh dropped me off at my house he explained to my grandfather what happened and he said he would cover for me and him. It felt good to have an ally on my side, it gave me comfort.

After I had found out Cameron had transferred my Chemistry class was awkward. I did go back to sitting next to Raleigh though and he made sure he sat close to me. Being close to Raleigh was awkward at first; I wasn’t used to being so close to him. During Chemistry he would always peek at Abey, I guess to make sure he wasn’t taking revenge or something. After Chemistry Raleigh, Aja, and I would have lunch together. Aja and Raleigh had started to get along, sharing their fascination for wolves. I found it funny that a werewolf was obsessed with wolves. Raleigh then made sure to walk me to Art then dashed off to his class. I took a seat next to Aja and she smiled at me. “You’re in a relationship with him aren’t you?” she asked, an eyebrow raised. I quickly shook my head; I was getting tired of this.

“No, what makes you think that?” I asked, pulling a pencil out of my backpack. She looked at me with a sarcastic smile.

“You guys are always together. You’re kind of like glue,” she explained, opening her sketchbook. Aja was an awesome artist and she had a sketchbook full of art.

“So, we’re just platonic friends. That’s it, there’s nothing else.” Aja shook her head as she finished drawing a tree on the paper.

“Well, if you don’t like him, he must like you. I’ve seen the way he looks at you, there’s no denying it.” I rolled my eyes, there was no way Raleigh liked me.

“There’s no way he likes me, I’m too much of a loser.” Aja laughed and looked up at me.

“You’ll just be losers together.” I chuckled. Yeah, the loser crew, ones a werewolf the other is just a girl. I shook my head, erasing the thought.

“Yeah, losers together,” I laughed. After class, Raleigh was waiting like always at the door, a smile on his face. I zipped up my sweater as I entered the hallway, there was a draft somewhere.

“How was class?” he asked me. I shrugged, not wanting to tell him what Aja said to me. In my mind, I didn’t see Raleigh in that type of light. But I guess he saw me in that type of way.

“Class was what I would call interesting,” I replied. He smiled and led me to class. We would always look around the halls, looking out for anybody. After Chemistry, I only saw Abey one more time, and that was government. Raleigh sat across the room away from me, but he always had his eye on Abey, waiting for him to make a move. It was always tense sitting in that class, you could possibly cut it with a knife. I sat in class everyday waiting on Abey to lunge at Raleigh or something. Sometimes I sat there and imagined what would happen if they just got up and started fighting, especially when the teacher went on and on with his lectures. When the bell rung signifying the end of school, Raleigh quickly made his way to me and led the way to my locker. I had liked walking through the halls when they were empty it was like nobody existed except Raleigh and I. I actual felt safe to be perfectly honest. Opening my locker, I scanned it, remembering what classes I had homework for. I then grabbed my book bag out and started to pack it. Raleigh snatched it out of my hand before I was done packing it; I quickly whipped around to look at him. “Hey! Give it back!” He smirked and held it up in the air. I hit him in the stomach, trying to knock him down, but I ended up hurting my hand.
