We finally arrive at the location of the event, which I have to say, screamed 'we are rich' from all corners. Thousands of fairy light decorations are wrapped around each and every pillar near the entrance. Through the large glass doors, I can see a glimmering golden chandelier hanging low from the ceiling. Women in beautiful gowns of various colours and men in tailored suits make their way from through the hall to the ceiling to floor french door that lead to the massive garden venue.
Finn stops the car and gets out to hand his keys to a parking valet. I slowly begin to step out before the stranger sits in and drives off to park the car. It seems pointless to me to waste money on hiring valets. I'm sure that if you are able to get a driving license you can park your car yourself, but I guess when you're rich it is acceptable to be lazy like that. I don't know how they stay so rich with them wasting money on absolute pointless things. I mean if I was rich I would be using it on a bookshelf that can rotate into other rooms, food and maybe help out some charities. I'm not that heartless.
"Hey come here" Finn interrupts my thoughts. At that point I realise I'm still standing near the valets, who are finding it really hard to move around me. I mutter a quick sorry and pace towards Finn stopping near his left side. I can tell he is nervous by the way he takes deep breaths and his many unsuccessful attempts at straightening his suit. It is surprising to see the normally confident bad boy – who easily can make any girl swoon (except me obviously) and be one of the most popular guy at school- Finn Walker like this. I know it's because of what he told his brothers about his 'fab date' but if he wanted to impress them with me as his date he has made a huge mistake.
Wait a minute!!! Why did he want me to come with him again? It was something to do with his brothers and their girlfriends but what does that have to do with me?! Oh sweet mother of the stars above what is going on here?!
"What is with your face? You look like you just remembered that you left the kitchen tap running and wondering if your home has flooded or drowned your pet cat" This is the second time this hour that I have done this whole spacing out thing. It's become a habit ever since I talked to Finn in maths lesson.
"Why are you talking about kitchens and cats?"
"Finally! You decide to join us terrible humans back on this polluted earth. Hope you had a safe trip on the way here" His voice is filled with sarcasm and isn't all that funny either. We walk to the growing queue of people in front of us that are also waiting to get their invitation cards checked so they can go into the party.
"So tell me again why I have to be here" I turn to look at Finn. His eyes widen ever so slightly and if i wasn't already looking at him I probably would miss this slight change in his expression.
"Erm because my brothers-"
"Your brothers what?"
"They have girlfriends-"
"So what's that gotta do with me?"
"They think that-"
"Think what?"
"They err...They you know erm-"
"So many lies coming out of your mouth right now" I cross my arms and stare, hoping to make him uncomfortable under my glare. Finn clears his throat, and avoids looking at me. I see my plan on making him uneasy is working. "You have 13 seconds to tell me the truth or I will turn back, but not before making a scene" at this point he looks visibly worried and begins to look around.
"Wait. Why 13 seconds?"
"I don't know. I like to be unique" I shrug.
"Okay fine I'll tell you the truth" He lets out a deep sigh before continuing. "I told my parents that I have a date tonight"
