Flashback:

We had settled comfortably into a house on the outskirts of LA. It was me, Yuno, her parents, and her younger brother. We were having dinner one night (yeah, we had dinner every night) when her mother pulled me to the side. She didn't say anything, just handed me a note and walked away. Later that night I opened it up. It read: Phoenix, these days you never know when something bad will happen. I wanted to tell you that if ever you find that we are not here anymore. I need you to take care of Yuno. She can't make it on her own. My only wish is that she remains safe and I need you to make sure that that happens. Thank You.

I folded the note and stuffed it in my pocket. I didn't think much of it at the time. But see, her mom had a way of knowing things. She gave me the letter at just the right time because the next day is when she was killed. Ironically, it wasn't by the creatures, it was by a pair of robbers. We took them in then they robbed us and killed Yuno's family. We played dead until they left. Yuno hasn't been the same ever since. She's still untrusting of anyone we meet.

We managed to barely survive the harsh winter months until some search and rescuers from the military found us. They brought us back to their base. Ever since then I have kept my promise to her mother.

(PHOENIX POV)

"Yuno! Yuno! Wake up!"

She opened her eyes groggily, "We need to go now!" I grabbed her by the hand and started running, not caring whether or not she kept up. I had no idea where I was heading, just that I needed to find an exit. If we didn't find one soon, then they'd get to us. I couldn't let Yuno down, I had to keep her going, she was... unstable.

As soon as she saw the first creature she was awake and alert. We turned at every hall only to find that we were going around in circles and attracting a crowd of them behind us. We finally managed to bust through an emergency exit, but that didn't make things any better.

We walked outside to find a pile of dead bodies. They were dismembered, and there was nowhere you could step without being in a pile of blood. The safety and comfort of the military base was over.

Yuno was ready to burst into tears, but I urged her forward. We ran and ran until we found a relatively safe looking house. "Over here!" I shouted. I stopped in front of the house. Yuno and I looked at each other and then back at the house.

"Do you think it's safe?" she asked.

"Only one way to find out" I answered.

Yuno took her knife out of her pocket and I drew my gun. But as I went to open the door I found that it was locked. There were still creatures behind us walking toward us. Then the door unlocked.

I started shooting my gun in a desperate attempt to stop them, but it only attracted more. This is it, I thought. We're going to die. I let her down, how could I- Suddenly they started falling one by one. I turned around to see a gun shooting through a small hole in a broken window. Then the door unlocked.

"Come in" a raspy voice said and the door unlocked. I guess there was still hope.

Yuno tried to say something, I could tell she didn't want to go in, but I looked at her and she knew to stop. "We have to go in it's not safe out here" I whispered to her.

"But what if-"

"We don't have time for ifs and buts" I said. I grabbed her hand and pulled her in.

"Uhh. Hello? Who's there?" I shouted into the darkness of the house. Suddenly a short figure appeared. He was wearing a tattered red and black flannel and dark jeans. He had glasses and an untrimmed beard.
