Miss independent
Miss self-sufficient
Miss keep your distance
Miss unafraid
Miss out of my way
Miss don't let a man interfere, no
Miss on her own
Miss almost grown
Miss never let a man help her off her throne
So, by keeping her heart protected
She'd never ever feel rejected
Little miss apprehensive
Said ooh, she fell in love

What is the feelin' takin' over?
Thinkin' no one could open my door
Surprise...It's time
To feel what's real
What happened to Miss Independent?
No more the need to be defensive
Goodbye, old you
When love is true

Misguided heart
Miss play it smart
Miss if you want to use that line you better not start, no
But she miscalculated
She didn't want to end up jaded
And this miss decided not to miss out on true love
So, by changing her misconceptions
She went in a new direction
And found inside she felt a connection
She fell in love.

This is a shorter chapter, guys, but there's a fair bit of drama in here too. Just... Remember that I believe in happily ever after, in the end.

It had been just past two months since that night when Edward and I had kissed for the first time, and when he'd asked me out on a date - a date that had been perfect. Edward, thank Lord, had had very little trouble from Lauren over those months, and God help her if she tried any shit again - I'd be kicking her skanky ass.

It had been a week ago that I realised that I was fucking in love with Edward Cullen. It had also been a week ago that I realised I'd been in love with Edward Cullen for longer than was altogether appropriate. I'd been falling for him before he'd asked me out - it had been more than a crush then, and it was certainly more than a crush now. I wasn't even sure I was ready for a relationship that was so serious yet, after what had happened with Mike.

But Edward was nothing like Mike. Edward was gentle and kind and patient, whereas Mike had been harsh and demanding and sometimes, though I hadn't realised it at the time, downright cruel. The two couldn't be more different. As Edward had so well said, he was messed up, but so was I. In that respect, we were the perfect pairing.

Besides Lauren being her desperate self, there was only one thing threatening our happiness. And that came from a source too close to Edward for my comfort. Alice. Edward's sister still, for whatever reason, disapproved of me beyond belief, and was incapable of seeing that Edward was happy. At least, he seemed happy to me.

I rolled over, yawning, and realised that Edward and I had fallen asleep together the previous night on his bed, fully-clothed, despite not intending to. Edward looked so much more peaceful asleep. I knew that Alice behaving as she was upset Edward more than he let on, and it was obvious that he was stressed by it all.

Edward's eyelids fluttered open, and a sleepy grin crossed his face as he looked at me. He stretched his arms over his head, causing his shirt to ride up, revealing a sliver of his toned stomach. There was no doubt about it - my man was fit. Calling Edward mine still made me smile.

"Morning, babe."

"Morning," I said, leaning down and kissing Edward's lips once. "We're meant to be going to Rose and Em's in about an hour."

Edward groaned, and I laughed slightly. "Do we have to? I don't want to deal with this shit today. Can't we stay here? I'd like to keep you to myself."
