Seeing the first few lights in a blur, Amelia rolled her head around to comprehend where she was, or what was around her. She expected her head to start pounding again, like the first time she was knocked out, but what grabbed her attention was the burning, crusted feel on her right side. Before her vision even regained to normal, she grabbed her painful cattle prod burn and moaned loudly in pain. She began feeling all the smaller wounds from the mirror fragments, which were slightly less painful than her burn. Amelia rolled on her cot-like bed and continued to moan, the burned flesh was stabbing her liver and small intestine; normally, humans can't feel such organs, but from the second degree burn in her right side, caused her to feel every little inch burned in her skin and inside her. Amelia's uncomfortable bed was small; she realized this as she ran out of bed-room and rolled off. She landed on the ground on her back, which was cold and damp.
Amelia bit her tongue in pain as she reopened her eyes and studied the ceiling. It reminded her of a high school's ceiling, with thin boards covering the wiring and tan strips for support; it reminded her how much she hated school, how she often found herself staring up at the ceiling, imagining what was hidden behind those thin boards. Her mind attempted to drift away from her unknown place, but her stinging right side was anchoring back into reality. Amelia began to feel uneasy, the fact that Madeline had betrayed her once again was just sickening to her stomach. How could her best friend turn around and completely blind side her like that? In her mind, she didn't do anything wrong; but it never occurred to her that Madeline was defending herself against her from the previous argument. Amelia didn't really care, she was just so upset that a stupid argument about something as simple as high school had caused their friendship to become deadly.
A low moaning sound came from her right; it was a male's voice. She glanced over, though her vision was still hazy. A thick wall of glass was separating her and the unknown male; however, there was a few nine holes poked through to allow communication. The male was also on the ground, but unmoving. His cell light was flickering slightly, causing Amelia's vision to fail her even more. The figure appeared to be holding its stomach, and was muttering something; Amelia was able to figure out that the dark figure in the adjacent cell was James.
With a raspy voice, Amelia called out to him. “James?” she whispered, unaware of how quiet her voice had become. When he didn't answer, Amelia gave up hope; her body had dealt with nearly 7000 volts of electricity in the last week alone. Her body had become fragile, tender, and even the thought of another electrical charge made her thin body twitch.
She sighed loudly, beginning to feel helpless again. She shut her eyes and listened to her breathing; because that was the only sound besides James' panting and moaning.
“Amelia?” she heard a different, yet familiar voice call for her. She turned her head, noticing that there was another thick, glass wall with nine holes on the other side. An auburn blob was lying in the cot in that cell, his hands by his sides. “He'll be fine.”
Amelia crawled up onto her knees using the cot and faced Neston. As her vision soon came back, she was able to watch Neston readjust himself, so he could face her. “They just feed him some of our food; it isn't staying down very well.” He nodded his head at James, and Amelia followed his glare. James was now on his knees, hunched over and held his stomach; getting ready to throw up.
“There is a reason why we don't eat human food, because it causes us to become violently ill; the same for humans.” Neston relaxed again by resting his head back on the cot.
“What? Do they want to watch us suffer?”
“That's what I'm assuming.” Neston shrugged his shoulders and sighed loudly.
