8- Late Nights

Using the manor to your advantage, you had the best bubble bath (or shower, if you find baths just too gross). Since servants usually washed their masters or mistresses, Meyrin stepped up to do the job since she was the only woman servant there. You were used to washing yourself, so you did most parts. You laid your head comfortably on the tub when Meyrin insisted she'd shampoo your hair. When she thoroughly washed your hair and scalp, you two held a conversation about all sorts of topics.

After that, she put you in a simple robe and led you to your room. The first thing you did was open a large closet to examine what it is that nobles wore that you didn't. A little surprised, it looked like you dressed the same. You slipped on a nightgown and lied on the expensive bed. There were a variety of sheets, each having different fabric and material. Silk, fur, cotton.. The pillows were fluffed up perfectly, yet you still couldn't fall asleep. After some twisting and turning in your bed, you decided to not let yourself get hungry while you stay awake. You called Sebastian to get you something appropriate for a night snack. You picked up the phone and decided to find someone to talk to. You called Grell, since he's the reason you know all your new friends.

"Hello, this is Grell speaking."

"What took you so long to answer, old man? Your back giving you trouble getting up for the phone?"

"...Ha."

"Oh, I'm just teasing."

"I don't quite enjoy it, I'm sure you've noticed."

"Definitely." You laughed.

"So what are you doing up so late?"

"I can't call a friend?"

"Friend?"

"Well, we are friends.. Aren't we?" You asked a little worried. It could have been your imagination, but he sounds truly confused.

"Well, I just.. Uh.." He sounded hesitant to tell you something for a moment. "I was just worrying if you only saw me as your miraculously good looking mentor, haha.. But seriously, why call me so late? Is something you want to tell me?"

"Hhhhmm.." You had a few things in mind, but decided to just go one at a time. "I think I made a friendship really awkward today."

"Oh~? Sounds like a good story." You heard shuffling in the background. He was probably getting ready in a comfy position to listen to your tale. "Tell me everything."

"Well, I was just asking my friend if he was available to do a favor involving with the chef case, and.."

"Ugh, work? I don't want to hear about that."

"Hold on, it's but for a moment. As I was saying, the favor was to get the owner of the restaurant to confess she's responsible for the murder. When I told him, I guess I should have worded it differently. I now understand why the beginning could have been misleading."

"Well what did you ask??"

"'I need a confession. I need to know' and that's when he cut me off and started saying things like, 'yes, I love you', 'you're such a puzzle', 'what can I do for you to love me already?' and I was just.. So.." You sighed. "I mean, how would anyone respond to that?.. Anyways, when I told him what I meant to say, he just hung up on me. I'm too afraid to call him back.. What if he doesn't want to talk to me anymore?"

"Hm.."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing.. It's just that you're more of a man magnet than I thought."

"Oh come on, Grell. That can't be all that you think about me."

"No, you're right. I think you're very.." He stopped talking, but the line wasn't completely silent. You could hear his breathing in a pattern that suggested he was in deep thought. "Unique, to put it in one word." You didn't respond, so he kept going. "You look great in men's clothing, that's for sure. And you're oddly charming for someone that can be so mean to a goddess like moi."
