Chapter 14: Mothers and Daughters

I walk down the water. Smelling the fresh sea water. Looking for some tree bark and rope. I see some in the woods. I grab it and run to Star.

"Star, help me make a raft to get out of here before Luna and the gang get here!" I say in a deep voice.

"Coming!" She yelled to me.

"I'll hold this up and you tie the rope onto it." I say holding the tree bark up.

She ties the rope into knots and I test it to see if it sinks into the water when you go. It does.

"So much for the escape plan." I say sarcastically.

She groans.

"We have to get out of here before Luna gets us!" She says desperately.

"I hate being the damsel." I mumble.

"What?" She asked to me looking at me weirdly.

"Never mind." I say.

Then I hear a voice behind me. It makes me jump and I turn around. Its Luna. I glare at her because I know she is going to say something nasty... I am right.

"Trying to run from me like a bunch of cowards are you?" She asks mockingly.

"Maybe." I say grabbing Star by the waist. I swim.

I swim as long as I can, the waves crash into my mouth, Star's body pulling me down through the current, Will I make it? I sink. I look over as Star, she starts looking unconscious, I see a shadow in the wave.

"Mom?" I ask looking at the woman in the current.

She smiles at me, putting her hand on my shoulder.

"You were the mer-queen weren't you?" I ask looking up at her, the salt water stinging my eyes.

She smiles down at me.

"After all that time?" I ask.

"Always." She says.

"Will I make it out of this alive?" I ask, the water burns my eyes. It feels like someone just chopped a bunch of unions in the water.

"That is up to you... But your friend doesn't look so good. She can't breathe under water like you can.... Another couple minutes and she'll be dead. It's up to you if you want to save more than one life."

"What?" I ask but I see that I am talking to no one. Her shadow had disappeared.

I look down at Star. I pull to air. I saved one life.... But why did she say "'it's up to you if you want to save more than one life?'"
