"When's the last time you, um, ran?" Gus asked Beauty as she started to doze off. Her eyes started to have a dull pain and Gus stared at them, "By how fast your eyes turned yellow. I am guessing not. You need to tonight. No 'but's!"

Beauty held Gus closer to her and he saw the bruises on her arm through the white fabric. She took a deep breath, "I was beaten harder a week ago because I was at mom's grave. Cloet doesn't care how hard she works me or how her son discourages me when I work. I'm so scared that they will find out. They would literally have everyone go to the village commons and have me executed by either you or Gaston. If they chose you because you are my friend I don't know how you would survive after that." Beauty had tears streaming from her bright yellow eyes. Years of physical and verbal abuse had dried up her eyes of all their tears, but thinking about what kind of effect it would have on Gus made her heart ache.

Gus leaned over and held her head to his chest, "I won't let that happen, but if that does happen. I will have the resolve not to kill myself. God have mercy on my soul, I love you so much Beauty. You are my dearest friend even though you're a wolf changeling. But you still need to run." His eyes also over-flowed with tears. They held each other as they cried out their worries and fears together before they slept peacefully under that unfruitful apple tree by the edge of the forest.
