I threw on a thin gray sweater and patterned scarf around my neck. I had on dark Levi's and black combat boots. And when fifteen minutes went by, I found myself in the bathroom applying makeup around my eyes out of boredom.

A half hour after getting off the phone with Prince, there was honking on the side of my four story building. I peeked out the window and saw his white Lincoln waiting for me.

Finally.

I took the elevator down and was smiling to myself before I even stepped out into the California night air.

I felt his eyes on me as I walked around the front of the car.

I yanked on the passenger's handle but the door didn't budge. I banged on the window and tried again.

Prince was playing games.

I bent over and met his smile through the window.

"Hi, there," he said.

I cocked my head to the side, smirking. "I can't hear you over the loud engine. Let me in, damnit."

He reached and unlocked my door.

I stood up straight and took a deep breath.

Prince was staring at me as I got in and buckled my seatbelt. Once settled, I turned and looked at him. "What the hell are you looking at?" I whispered.

"You always look like this at five o'clock in the morning?"

"Yup," I said, smacking my lips. "I sure do."

"Hm." He eased his foot off the brake.

I reached for the radio as the car started moving forward.

"Don't touch my damn radio."

I flinched as he smacked my hand like I was a child. "Excuse you."
