Nineteen years old and never have I experienced romance. I've seen it; in movies, at my prom, in my parent's eyes...
Prince giving me a card with two movie premiere tickets was the closest to romance I've been. Or maybe just hours before when he sang to me from the stage.
But I wanted the full sensory experience. I wanted to hear the soft music playing, feel the soft bed sheets, smell the roses, taste the wine, and see desire in a lover's eyes.
A couple hours after Sheila's show, I was in a hotel room I got for the night, pacing back and forth, stuck in terrifying thoughts. I was trying to predict the future—how Prince would react when he stepped into the small room full of rose petals, candlelight and chocolates.
Mykell, Tiani, Kaylah and I couldn't stop giggling in the stores. It was definitely a last-minute decision and I had no idea what I would be getting myself into.
I was on a tight budget so I couldn't be as lavish I liked to be, but it was satisfying enough.
I shaped tealight candles into a heart on the queen-sized bed, then filled it with pink and white petals. I put the rest of the candles in glass cups and placed them strategically through the room to allow the perfect glow.
I was just praying the scene wouldn't scare him. The more I thought of it, I was frightening myself, actually.
I was so nervous, I forgot to dress the part. I caught my mediocre reflection in the mirror. A black t-shirt and ripped up jeans was not widely considered sexy. Especially, not for the renowned Prince.
Before I could fully freak out, there was tapping at the door.
"Hold on!"
I ran to the closet and snatched off my apparel. And my hair was a mess, thanks to the New York City winds.
I was so busy perfecting the room, I forgot all about me.
The closest I could get to sexy was throwing my black, silk robe over my bra and panties. I would've rather been walking to the door with a cute little dress on or something with some heels. Instead, my bare feet and legs were pacing towards the door and the oversized robe was slipping off my shoulders.
I looked desperate and ready, which I wasn't.
I only opened the door enough to peek my head through.
Big Chick was standing behind Prince. "Hi," I breathed nervously towards them.
Prince was looking at me suspiciously. I guess the long wait and my ninja appearance did that. "Are you going to invite me inside?" he asked.
"Yes." I opened the door just enough to pull Prince through. "Thanks, Chick."
He nodded with a knowing grin. "You kids have a good night."
