Chapter 7 – Decisions

It had been a whole day. More than twenty four hours had already passed. Neerav was still nowhere to be seen. Bipasha’s ire was increasing. What was she doing here if she was still going to be alone anyway? Sitting at the table alone, Bipasha stirred her spoon in her plate of uneaten food. She did not even have to cook it! All she had to do was to sit at the table and the food would appear.

Magically!

Imagine her surprise when she discovered that. She could not even share it with anyone. It was a total bummer. Negativity was seeping back into her thoughts again and no amount of time spent in the wonderful park area surrounding the house was cheering her up. She still felt as lonely as she always did. Why did she sign up for this trip again?

Fuck this shit. I’m going.

Neerav surfaced from the deep end of the pool.

“I’d figured that you’d be here,” a voice rang out. It startled him. He spun around to look at her. She still looked as beautiful as she always did. Clad in a mid-thigh-length dark-red sundress that had pretty lace as the neckline and tiny bows for the thin shoulder straps, Bipasha was leaning against the door that led to the indoor pool. She was barefoot. Neerav chose not to say anything. From where he was positioned, he could barely see the expression on her face. Accounting for his lack of clear vision was also the fact that water was running down his face. He was wet.

“Get out of the pool, dry yourself and get changed. In five minutes, I will see you in the kitchen,” Bipasha continued. Neerav remained silent. Standing up to her full height, Bipasha announced, “We need to talk.” Then, spinning around on her heel, she marched out. Neerav was left staring into the space she had been occupying.

What does she want to talk about? Is she thinking of leaving?!

Neerav panicked and scrambled out of the pool. He stripped out of his trunks and showered naked under the nearby showerhead. Luckily, the pool was magical. If not, he’d be reeking of chlorine. With a towel wrapped around his waist, he sauntered to his room. At the same time, he ruffled his hair with another towel. Quickly pulling on a pair of black boxers with hot pink lips on them, he donned a grey t-shirt and a pair of black bermudas.

“Show time,” Neerav muttered as he looked himself in the mirror. His hair was sticking out in all directions but honestly, he could not be bothered. He’d be late if he continued to stand in front the mirror and fix his appearance. He did not want to give her any other reason to regret coming on this trip besides the one he had already given her…yesterday? He swore it felt like weeks ago.

When Neerav entered the kitchen, Bipasha was sitting at the table with her arms on it and her head looking down. Her hands were folded, her fingers entwined loosely. The scene looked like a poster for a movie about depression. She didn’t notice Neerav’s presence until he sat across from her and took her hands in his. She looked up in surprise.

Looking into eyes that screamed misery and desolation, Neerav blurted, “I’m sorry.” Not being able to stand the look in her eyes anymore, he lowered his head. He felt her squeeze his fingers. Neerav looked up.

“I’m leaving.” Neerav sucked in a breath, not believing a word she uttered. He started to shake his head. “No Neerav, I’m leaving. This trip is-“

“You can’t leave.”

“I don’t have a reason to stay either.”

“This is our first setback as a couple. We should try to work this out. Let me ex-“

“No Neerav. I said I’m leaving and the decision is final. I’ve already packed my bags. I just wanted to tell you before leaving. I didn’t want to leave you hanging despite what you did to me.”

Neerav looked at her. He really stared at her. He felt himself getting angry. He was angry at himself for acting so rashly. He was angry at her for not understanding.

“Don’t act as if you didn’t manipulate me. You weren’t the only one who was negatively affected by the scene in the bathroom yesterday.” She opened her mouth to defend herself. He raised his right hand in a ‘Stop right there’ signal. She clicked her jaw shut. It was then he realised that she had no idea as to why he acted the way he did in the bathroom. Neerav closed his eyes and inwardly chanted, “All is well.” Taking a deep breath and releasing it out with a ‘woosh’, Neerav re-started, “I was a victim of sexual abuse when I was a child.”
