Chapter Five: Explainations

"We're not salvaging anything. We're not just taking down the carriers, Nick. We're taking down S.H.I.E.L.D." Steve said with a cold tone.

"S.H.I.E.L.D. had nothing to do with this." A man that Steve introduced to Emily as Nick Fury, said as he looked at them.

"You gave me this mission. This is how it ends. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s been compromised. You said so yourself. H.Y.D.R.A. grew right under your nose and nobody noticed." Steve shot back quickly, taking Emily by surprise.

"Why do you think we're meeting in this cave? I noticed." Nick looked over at Emily with a looked of distrust.

"How many paid the price before you did?" Steve asked, stepping between Emily and Fury.

"Look, I didn't know about Arkos, or Barnes." Fury looked at the two of them. The mention of his name made her blood run cold.

"Even if you had, would you have told me? Or would you have compartmentalized that, too? S.H.I.E.L.D., H.Y.D.R.A., it all goes." Steve said again with a small tone of bitterness.

"He's right." The woman from the truck told Fury. Fury glanced at Natasha, who nodded, showing that she has the same opinion. Fury then looks to Sam.

"Don't look at me. I do what he does, just slower." Sam cracked a small smile.

"Well... It looks like you're giving the orders now, Captain." Fury sighed, leaning back in his chair.

"He's gonna be there, you know?" Sam said, as he and Emily walked up to Steve who was looking out over a bridge.

"I know." He mummbled, not looking at either one of them.

"Whoever he used to be, or whoever he was. He might not be the kind you save, he might be the kind you stop." Sam stood on Steve's right as Emily stood on the left.

"I can't do that." Steve finally looked away from whatever he was looking at.

"He might not give you the choice." Emily spoke, making Steve finally look at her. "He doesn't know you." She sighed. "He doesn't know us."

"He will." Steve patted her on the shoulder and started walking away.

"You gonna wear that?" Sam asked, noticing that Steve wasn't in his uniform.

"No, to fight a war, you need to wear a unifrom." He smiled slightly over his shoulder as he walked away.

"Hi, Sharon, right?" Emily asked tapping a blonde woman on the shoulder. She turned around to see Emily behind her.

"Yes, and you are?" She smiled kindly, yet a little confused.

"I'm a friend of Captain Rogers, he told me to keep an eye on you." Emily whispered so no one heard, she knew that there were people who were looking for him. She nodded slowly, a look of confusion still on her face but not as much as before. Then a loud beep, followed by booming voice that could only belong to one person, spread through the room.

"Attention all S.H.I.E.L.D agents. I'm sure you've heard a lot about me during these last few days. I know that a few of you were sent to hunt me down. But here's the truth, S.H.I.E.L.D has been taken over by H.Y.D.R.A.. Alex Pierce is their leader, the strike team is too. I don't know own who else, but they couldn't be sitting right next to you." Steve spoke with such passion and drive, Emily couldn't help but shake her head slightly. They short, scraggly guy she once knew, or thought she knew was gone.
