I looked hesitantly at my big brother and watched him as he walked smoothly and looked at the 3D map of the national forest. He said something but I wasn't listening to his nerd talk.

I looked at a photo hung on the wall and saw a giant bear.

"Dude, check out the size of this freaking bear!" I exclaimed and he looked over his shoulder to look at it. I felt him breathing on my shoulder as I noticed he moved to right behind me.

"And a dozen or more grizzlies in the area. It's no nature hike, that's for sure." He murmured and I kept looking at the photo with the giant bear. It was so freaking awesome!

"You boys aren't planning on going out near Blackwater Ridge by any chance?" A voice said from behind us. We whipped around, startled. An older gentleman looked at us hesitantly. He was in a ranger uniform and he had a name tag with Ranger Wilkinson written on it.

"Oh, no, sir, we're environmental study majors from UC Boulder, just working on a paper." Sam lied through his teeth. Things like that came so natural for him.

I fist pumped the air, "Recycle, man!"

He looked at us and gave us a serious look. "Bull."

Sam looked nervously towards me and I looked towards him. We had no idea what to do.

"You're friends with that Haley girl, aren't you?" He asked.

Sam laughed nervously, "Yes, Yes, we are Mr.-" Sam looked for his name tag.

"Mr. Wilkinson." I said.

"Well I will tell you exactly what we told her. Her brother filled out a backcountry permit saying he wouldn't be back from Blackwater until the twenty-fourth, so it's not exactly a missing persons now, is it?" He seemed annoyed.

I shook my head no.

"You tell that girl to quit worrying, I'm sure her brother is just fine." He shooed us away. Sam gave me a look to keep asking questions.

"Well we will." Sam said.

"That Haley girl is quite a pistol, Huh?" I asked. I was interested in this Haley girl. I wondered if she was cute.

Sammy and my dad always say I'm girl-crazy.

The ranger turned around and looked me in the eyes, "that is putting it mildly."

I looked at Sam and strained out a chuckle.

"Actually you know what would help is if I could show her a copy of that backcountry permit. You know, so she could see her brother's return date," I informed the Ranger. I bit my lip as he raised an eyebrow to me.

"Alright." He murmured.

A few moments later Sam and I walked out of the Ranger's building with the piece of paper. I smiled proudly and opened the drivers side door.

"What, are you cruising for a hookup or something?" Sam asked casually. My mind wandered to a couple weeks before when I had this girl-

"Dean?" Sam interrupted my thoughts.

"What do you mean?" I asked slyly and cleared my throat. I would have to continue my thoughts later.

"The coordinates point to Blackwater Ridge, so what are we waiting for? Let's just go find Dad. I mean, why even talk to this girl?" Sam asked me.

I shrugged and turned the car on. My baby purred and I felt satisfied with her noise.

"I don't know, maybe we should know what we're walking into before we actually walk into it," I suggested. Sam scoffed and rolled his eyes.

"What?" He looked upset.

"Since when are you all shoot first, ask questions later anyways?" I snapped at Sam.  I felt him tense up and cower a little into his seat.

"Since now." He responded bluntly and looked out the window.

"Really?" I raised an eyebrow and looked at the address that Ranger Wilkinson gave us.

"Give me some directions." I demanded Sam.

"Who's the older one!" He raised his voice.

"You! But you're acting like a baby. You're the one who went away to college while I did all the hunts with Dad!" I lashed out my anger.

Sam opened the glove box again and shut it hard. It made a loud noise and my eyes snapped to it. He better have not hurt my baby or else I'd kill him.

"Give me the address," Sam murmured.
