If I May be so Bold that I Could Say Something

            "Oasis changed my life."

It's a quote you've probably heard. A quote you probably live by if you're any degree of Madferit. Another mantra to follow. Another statement to inspire lyrics that get you through the bad times. And make you even happier through the good ones.

With all the hype surrounding Supersonic and the fact my ideas for the latest short stories in this collection have fallen dreadfully flat, I decided to change things up a bit. My weekend was too busy to get any writing done and any time I did find time to sit down and do it, I had no motivation. Thus, here's something different. I hope you like it as much as everything else I've written and I really appreciate you taking the time to read it.

We in the US get one opportunity to see Supersonic in theaters. One night in select cities across the country, we can witness what all of our fellow Madferits have already had the opportunity to see. I still don't know if I'll get to go. It would make for a lovely sisters' night out but we're both busy and the closest option is Cleveland. If I have to wait for the DVD, I won't be too heartbroken. It'll probably be better to have the ability to pause and rewind anyway. Not to mention the special features. Update: I talked to my sister and we are going. Now I just have to buy the tickets. Yay!

We're lucky to get the opportunity to see it in theaters, I think. I was honestly surprised they'd give us the chance. Probably not as surprised as when they brought the Stone Roses film though. I think that one came out on my birthday.

Oasis is the biggest band no one has ever heard of. At least, that's how it seems in the States anyway. They did gigs in some of the biggest venues across the country yet no one appears to have a clue.

Maybe I'm a little biased. In small-town Ohio (where I'm from), I felt a little like a black sheep for liking them amongst my other favorite bands.

In a high school not far from mine, there was a group of students who'd heard of them. They formed two bands both influenced by the one from Manchester. I ended up dating one of the bands' guitarists. He even looked like Liam Gallagher. And he sang like him too.

Naturally, my high school self requested "Wonderwall" because we supposedly were each other's. Looking back on it nearly 10 years on, it was the anthem of our high school puppy love and to this day, I still picture him sitting in my living room serenading me every time I hear the song.

"Wonderwall" is the song you've heard even if you've never heard it before (in my opinion anyway). Maybe it marks Oasis a one-hit wonder to some.

It certainly doesn't to me.

It's obviously not my favorite song as they had way more that were better. And had I known that maybe a year earlier than I did, things in my life could've been slightly different.

Like actually getting the chance to see them live.

If you've read my other stories, you know I love Jet. You may or may not have heard of them. You may or may not be a fan of them. They got back together and to say I'm ecstatic about that is an absolute understatement.

I fell in love with them when I was thirteen. One listen and I was hooked. I wanted to see them live but missed the first opportunity I got.

A little over a year later, I got another chance. I was a freshman in high school, just a couple months away from turning fifteen, and Jet was coming to Blossom Music Center.

But they weren't alone and they weren't the headliners either.

I had no idea who this "Oasis" was but I figured if I wanted to see Jet, I had to give them a chance. So, I went to Wal-Mart, sampled Don't Believe the Truth, and reckoned they were pretty good.
